Diane Abbott made a clumsily worded statement, apparently a first draft unintended for publication and she apologised for it, apologised for any offence caused. She was suspended by Keir Starmer in a heartbeat. A black left wing MP suspended accused of racism, yet we've seen time and again white... show more

It wasn't that clumsily worded 'Jewish' is not a race 'Catholic' is not a race 'Muslim' is not a race They are Abrahamic religions

Solidarity to Diane Abbott. Where was SIR when she was abused and even threaten to be killed? As usual he was not to be seen to back her and accused, persecuted and prosecute her attackers. What a Barrister, what a UKLabour Leader?

@brian_precious Complete Solidarity with this new piece @KernowDamo …. You have totally nailed it👈 Keep on doing what you do best.

@brian_precious Cheers folks!

So here's my question: If a Labour MP queried how much racial abuse Diane Abbott receives, would Starmer suspend them? If not, he's a hypocrite using allegations of racism for his own ends.

Everyone should know that Diane means no offence, she s just clumsy with words. They ve got rid of another Corbyn ally

@sulaAlice It absolutely wasn’t clumsy, it was horrific, as was the apology. If that was a first draft, then that was her first thought on the subject. There is no league table when it comes to racism.

#SolidarityWithDiane Granted in these days of witch-hunts and culture wars not the best time to express uncomfortable truths and perhaps could have been worded better but it needed to be said once said no stepping back powers that be take that as weakness & move in 4 the kill

It seems the only racism Keir Starmer recognises and deals with swiftly is antisemitism. His double standard treatment of his own Labour MPs who committed similar offences is staggering. Black and Brown people are watching and learning their votes for Labour is in vain.

Let me correct that for you. A black left wing racist MP. If she did no wrong she wouldn't have needed to apologise. She's out 😂

Who in the Labour Party has defended Diane throughout her political career as she receives a huge amount of racism? Which member of the shadow cabinet has stood up to defend her?

The issue with Diane Abbott's letter is of course that if 'Jewish' is viewed as an Abrahamic religion, like 'Catholic' and 'Muslim' rather than an ethnicity, as she rightly states it to be, then claims to land in Palestine based on ethnicity are clearly shown to be false

It wasn't clumsily worded it was racist.

@Carl0s_Vela I don't think regardless of how it was worded would have made a difference, her meaning was clear and objective evidence supports her.

Actually I don't see anything wrong with Diane Abbot's comments on someone's article about prejudice and racism. Nothin in her statement is on the face of it untrue. Where is the racism?

According to the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism, Context can include the intention behind an utterance or a pattern of speech over time, or even the identity of the speaker. This information challenges the IHRA @HackneyAbbott is NOT antisemitic.

When a white person apologises for a racist comment they want us to "accept the apology and move on". Where is that same curtsy for Diane Abbott?

Totally agree with you on this. I am not a Diane Abbott supporter but totally got what point she was trying to make. She speaks from "lived" experience.

I’m still unsure what the word is for discrimination based on skin colour… surely this is a thing that we need a word for!

Colorism apparently. I googled.

Really?? This is by far not the first time Diane Abbott has been racist, people like you have been apologising for her behaviour for years!!🙄

Diane Abbott is a racist. Sees everything from a black perspective...

Well! 1st Corbyn now Abbott. It was obvious. This is how Purge works.

Totally agree with everything you said and I will never vote for the Labour Party under starmer.

She didn’t apologise for this though!

She wrote it, so it can only be what she thinks. She, presumably, re-read it, (and if she didn't, then that's her fault, no one else's). She submitted it for publication. This is all on her.

STARMER SHOULD be suspended. He is the one who turned the LP into a dictatorship ,ruled by fear. Abbott has suffered years of racial abuses, which have never been dealt with. she is the victim.let's not attack the victim

You serious 🧐? She thought it She wrote it She sent it She apologised for writing it She still thinks it. See the issue? Nothing more than a race baiter.

Intellectualising racism? That’s the way forward lad. As long as you find a way to defend a black racist female, that’s okay! That’s the bigotry of low expectations!

Frankly the first draft excuse is poor. The problem was not a few badly drafted words but the the whole theme of the letter which was unambiguousl. Racism against Jew, Irish and Travellers does not count the same. Anyway it was sent out so she has to own it as her final draft

Fair put made very well, mate!

The moral knots trying to be un tangled here are quite sometime. Ultimately, we’re back at the same point though. It’s definitely everyone else’s fault.

the bbc and the rest of them have made a big fist of this, yet whatever the torys do you will get sod all .

Senator Whitehouse asks Pam Bondi about the weaponization of the DOJ during her confirmation hearing. Whitehouse: "it would not be appropriate for a prosecutor to start with a name and look for a crime. It's a prosecutor's job to start with a crime and look for a name, correct?" Bondi: "Senator, I think that is the whole problem with the weaponization that we have seen the last four years and what's been happening to Donald Trump. They targeted Donald Trump. They went after him, actually starting back in 2016. They targeted his campaign. They have launched countless investigations against him. That will not be the case if I am Attorney General. I will not politicize that office. I will not target people simply because of their political affiliation. Justice will be administered even handedly throughout this country. Senator, we've got to bring this country back together. We've got to move forward or we're going to lose our country."
