I warned Alberta separatists repeatedly the government would drag this referendum out for years. Meanwhile Mark Carney will grant citizenship to hundreds of thousands of new arrivals, who will vote to remain in Canada so they can bring their extended family over. The Premier did not say she would campaign against Alberta sovereignty in the event of a referendum. Her answer in French matches exactly what she told me at the UCP AGM: She supports Alberta sovereignty within a united Canada, and she reiterated that position, nothing more. CBC has now quietly updated its article and added a correction stating the Premier did not specify which side she would take. In fact, the Premier also said Thomas Lukaszuk’s petition is a referendum on separation, not sovereignty within Canada. In addition, with the repealing of section 2(4) of the Citizens Initiative Act proposed yesterday, the Premier has opened the door for the Alberta Prosperity Project’s binding constitutional question: “Do you agree that the Province of Alberta shall become a Sovereign Country and cease to be a province in Canada?” Watch the clip yourself.
