Funny thing is, as much as I understood the whole "dying on dragon back" thing, he didn't expect to die after he fell, he is HEIR TO THE THRONE! It's better if he's alive and safe than dead on his dragon if he could save himself

The second Vermax went down, Jace was looking for an exit. Daemon would have gone down with the dragon. Jace died trying to save himself. That's Velaryon blood, not dragon blood.
