B787 right pedal test. Just a light heel and the aft wheels went to 20-25% EBA force. Then I put the whole foot on it, toe and heel together, and the right side jumped to 66%. Each of the eight main wheels has its own carbon brake and each brake has four electric actuators. That’s 32 of them on the airplane. No hydraulics at all. The page we use shows everything at once: how much you’re pressing, park brake status, tire pressures, brake temps, remaining life and the actual EBA force. It only uses the aft pair until you really stand on it, which is by design to save wear. Some pilots still prefer the feel of hydraulic brakes with their 3,000 to 5,000 psi. Others like the 787 electric setup. The good thing here is we get to see a lot of data on the brakes, as you can see from this page.

These continuous tire marks on the Munich runway after VN-A867’s takeoff are hard to ignore.. That strongly suggests the brakes were clamping or not fully released during the takeoff roll... possible Electric Brake Actuator issue, partial seize, or unintended input. Every main brake also hit the max temperature (9.9) just 15 minutes after becoming airborne. That only happens when a lot of energy goes into the brakes during the roll. Investigation will confirm the exact cause, but the marks and the temperatures point clearly toward a brake issue during takeoff.

Working the nose gear bay on the 787 and thought this was worth sharing. Those nose wheels are still spinning fast after takeoff... no hydraulic/Electric brakes like the mains. So when the gear retracts, they roll right into this nose wheel spin brake. See the belt and cleats? The tires hit them, friction slows everything down quick. Stops gyro forces, cuts vibration/noise in the bay. When the wheel or cleats wear out, the wheels can keep rolling inside longer... you hear it sometimes. Simple but smart engineering.

Vibrations around 100 km/h when you apply the brakes are most likely caused by warped or uneven brake discs. You’ll need to replace the brake discs and also inspect the brake calipers and brake pads to make sure they haven’t been damaged or are contributing to the problem. However, don’t confuse this with vibrations that occur above 60 km/h without applying the brakes. Those are more likely to be related to the driveshaft, wheel balancing, suspension components, or damaged/uneven tyres. The key difference is when the vibration occurs during braking

The Airbus A330 brake system is subjected to extreme testing to determine how much thermal and mechanical stress the wheel, tire and brake assembly can withstand. During this type of test, the wheel and tire are accelerated to high rotational speed before maximum braking is applied. The carbon brakes then absorb the wheel's kinetic energy and convert it into heat. As the temperature rises, the brake discs begin to glow, followed by heavy smoke, sparks and severe wear of the friction material. The purpose is not simply to reproduce a normal landing. Engineers deliberately push the brake assembly toward its limits to measure its energy-absorption capability, thermal endurance and failure behavior. Extreme temperatures can accelerate carbon oxidation and eventually damage the brake, wheel and tire assembly. FSD slams on the brakes for a cat in the road that doesn’t even exist. This is FSD 12.6.4 on HW3, which is a lot more sensitive to shadows & objects in the road with the 2026.8.6 update. There are many reports of brake stabbing. It brings me back to the days when I was testing with v10.3 of FSD back in 2021. It’s interesting that it’s the same FSD version as before, and not something like 12.6.4.1, but I guess Tesla can change the weights without changing the version. And they’ve likely been doing this for a while with 12.6.4. 😒

During the snowstorm that is sweeping through the U.S. right now, the safest vehicle you can be in is in a Tesla with FSD bc it can react faster than any human or gas car. An electric motors respond in milliseconds. When a wheel starts to slip on snow or ice, Tesla’s sensors detect it up to 1,000 times per second, and the computer instantly cuts or redistributes power to the wheels with grip. On the other hand, gas cars have major delay and don’t have this capability… That means if your Tesla hits a tiny patch of ice, the car corrects it right away, even before you even feel it, almost like the car is thinking ahead. If you don’t believe me listen to the man that built it. Joe: “What happens if you get sideways in the snow? Like, does it correct for that?” Elon: “Yeah. Electric cars have really great traction control because the reaction time is so fast. So, with a gasoline car, you’ve got a lot of latency. It takes a while for the engine to react, but for electric motors, incredibly precise…. But to an electric motor, it’s operating at the millisecond level. Lately till yesterday, we got to know that another Boeing 787 in the pilot defect report, which is part of the technical log book of the aircraft, the pilot in command has given a noting which is in black and white, which clearly states that the fuel control switch, which is one of the most essential switches in the Boeing 787, has faltered, has misbehaved and it is quite appalling as an aviator that the same switch was part of an inquiry report which led to the Air India crash. We must understand that this fuel control switch is guarded by the manufacturer, has misbehaved. In this particular instance, the operator, the regulator and the manufacturer, all three of them have to introspect. The country cannot take this lightly..."
