Earlier this year I sat down with Dr Jordan B Peterson to talk about Alberta’s compassionate approach to taking down encampments. Alberta’s government won’t allow vulnerable people to be injured and abused in dangerous encampments. Here in Alberta, we believe in recovery and will continue providing individuals leaving encampments with the critical supports and services they need.

In 2025, the City of San Diego spent $7M to clear tent encampments. However, since the city rarely issues citations or makes arrests for violations, there is little accountability for violating the law so encampments come right back - often within hours of being cleared. The result is that some city blocks were cleared over 100 times last year. The sad reality is that, according to the State of California’s 2023 study on homelessness, most of the chronically homeless are suffering from addiction. Without meaningful consequences for their actions, it’s unlikely they’ll ever get help on their own. Allowing tent encampments is not compassionate to those living on the streets and it’s not fair to the rest of the general public who deserve clean and safe public spaces.

Washington State Rep says Democrats introduced Bill HB 2489 and it will be voted on this week Democrats will let the homeless setup tent encampments on kids soccer fields and city parks and make it ILLEGAL for the city to remove them I can’t believe this is real… “There's a bill in the housing committee that will be voted on this week. That will allow homeless encampments in your communities. Think about your city soccer fields, city parks, and city officials would not be able to move those encampments.”

Clearing encampments and reducing homelessness is not rocket science. We need to enforce the law and treat the root cause homelessness which is drug addiction and mental health. The only reason we have this problem in LA is due to corruption and politics as usual!

The LA mayoral debate last night turned HEATED as the moderator got in on ROASTING Karen Bass and Nithya Raman for the homelessness crisis. 🔥 (Raman and Bass argue over homeless encampments) Moderator: "This is the issue. The audience doesn't know who to believe, and they don't have a lot of confidence that either of you has a definitive plan."
