Tattoos are traditionally for ppl who have been in jail or been part of criminal organizations in many countries not only Japan but westerns think is "cool" to have tattoos!

Correct💯 Me personally think such restriction is outdated. The Yakuza(Japanese mafia) tattoos and fashion tattoos are different so.

SO stupid, that thing will fall off anywhere you would want to go with water. I've been to Onsens and no one ever checked me for tattoos. Plus, Japan is pretty forgiving with the "foreigner card" No one thinks this lady is Yakuza lol

Yes. You can’t use public gyms, pools, saunas, or some beaches with tattoos, and they can affect jobs. In fact, having tattoos in Japan is stressful. So, if you have them, avoid Japan.

FAKEEEE!! Traveled there and im covered head to toe! Did not run in to one establishment over my whole time there with issues on this matter! When to many spas, gyms, public places uncovered. Even the Japanese men are getting trending tattoes etc… its an old false debate

I can confidently say that going to these establishments were at the bottom of my list when exploring the country. As a westerner, you can have visible tattoos and Japanese people know you're not Yakuza

Interesting reminder that what’s normal in one place isn’t everywhere. Learning these things early definitely helps.

I went in just fine with my tats exposed. Some complemented them. Stop spreading misinformation

Oh yeah. I live in Japan. They don't like the tats at all here. Some people are into them, but you can be denied service at places and may miss out on job opportunities if you have visible tattoos.

Respecting traditions is one thing. But respecting prejudices is ridiculous.

Funny how when it’s Japan it’s just out of respect for the culture but in the US it would be considered oppression. White liberals make no sense lol.
