Can you really give America than much credit for Mariupol? It has a long history. I do take pride in a Brit/Welshman basically building Donetsk, though, whose former name comes from him.

The city of Donetsk was founded in 1869 by Welsh businessman John Hughes, who operated a steel plant and several coal mines at Aleksandrovka. The place was named Юзівка, after Hughes. It received immigrants from Wales, especially from the town of Merthyr Tydfil.

You can’t refer to Scots as being non-British and then ignore the Welsh input. Wales and the Welsh mining community also strongly supports Ukrainians!
