This was one of the big problems for both Ukraine and Russia: their dependence on rocket artillery systems. Unlike artillery shells, these rockets have a lifespan of 8-12 years until they are reconditioned and the propellant is replaced. In theory, this process can be repeated twice since other parts of the rocket would also degrade. Both Ukraine and Russia rushed to recondition their rockets, but many rockets over 30 years old were used in the war, causing failures like those seen in this video. Conventional artillery shells, depending on storage, can majority detonate even after 30 years, but rockets do not.
