"Interestingly, in Syrian state TV, a lot of the people interviewed around all of these developments have literally been cheering the Israelis on,” MEI Senior Fellow Charles Lister explained in a recent MEI webinar. Lister unpacked the Syrian government's silence on the exchange of strikes and analyzed why some Syrians are voicing their support for Israel.

That is why, on July 8, President Trump informed Congress of his intent to rescind Syria's State Sponsor of Terrorism designation—unlocking trade & investment opportunities to help rebuild Syria. How far Syria has come in such a short time is remarkable. In 1979, it was the first country on the U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism. Today, it is a regional leader in the fight against ISIS, Hizballah, & other terrorist groups.

ISIS is strengthening again with Turkey's assistance inside Syria, rapidly taking control of territories. According to reports, they already control Raqqa, and large parts of the country are at risk of falling into their hands.
