The OSS (Office of Strategic Services) created a bizarre but genius device - shoes with carved wooden soles shaped like cow hooves. These were used by spies in rural France and Austria to disguise their tracks and make it look like livestock had passed through and not humans.

Some of the key methods and strategies used to disguise or eliminate footprints during WWII 🤯 1. Backtracking: Soldiers would walk backward in their own footprints to confuse about the direction they were going. 2. Reversed Soles: Boots were sometimes modified with soles that had backward tread patterns to give the illusion of walking in the opposite direction. 3. Animal Hoof Covers: They used covers shaped like animal hooves (such as cow or deer hooves) to disguise human tracks. 4. Stepping on Hard Surfaces: Moving over rocks or harder ground reduced the chances of leaving visible footprints.
