Money has always evolved alongside technology. From paper, to electronic ledgers, to digital payment rails, each shift changed how markets operate rather than whether they operate. I asked Maldives Airports Company Ltd staff to contact Beijing Capital Airlines’ ground handler (Voyages Maldives). The airline staff could not come to assist but spoke over the phone. Their position was clear: They have no SOP to provide immediate assistance or even attend the case proactively from their side, all the burdens are on the passengers they are expected to: • Manage on their own ( note: most of our arrivals are tourists ) • Go home however they can • Buy a new suitcase if necessary • Submit a claim later with receipts and hope for reimbursement Now the serious Q: How is an airline allowed to operate at the main international airport of a top global tourist destination without internationally practiced minimum passenger assistance standards? Legal liability sits with the airline. But service standards inside the terminal fall under airport oversight. If MACL does not require airlines to follow defined passenger assistance standards, that is a regulatory gap that must be addressed.
