I had an NDE and still vividly remember all the dark shadows all around me, trying to grab my soul. it was terrifying.I sensedthose shadows are around us all the time, waiting for a chance to snatch soul on the brink of death. Malevolent and ravenous: soul snatchers. Scared me so much that I came back to life.

I came across a more interesting theory. The place shown in the movie isn't the afterlife but a secret location on Earth.
