Canola oil (Canadian Oil) was first used as an engine lubricant in the world wars. Once those were over they had no use for it any longer so they figured out a way to make it edible. That's where it started.

In Argentina we don’t use it. Canola oil is known as the w0rst. Corn oil is the cheapest we have and regularly used to frying foods. Sunflower is of daily consumption, although not recommended, due to the chemicals used during manufacturing this oil. If searching for more natural options, tallow, butter, coconut oil, avocado oil and of course, olive oil is recommended.
