Do you know The Simpsons animation? Konami made an arcade game using the Simpsons IP, and it was a lot of fun. I naturally expected it to be ported to home consoles and waited for it, but in the end, it never came out on any console. Interestingly, though,... show more

Let me introduce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (arcade game), a game I had an absolute blast playing in arcades when I was a kid. Back then, Konami was making a lot of belt-scrolling action games using various IPs, and this title was a huge hit. It was also ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the arcade feel was recreated surprisingly well, which made it very popular. Even today, it’s still incredibly fun to play 👌

JK Simmons on the Cancelled Batgirl Movie: "We Really Had a Good Time Making It" Host (Josh): "Yeah, the last time I spoke to you, you were about to play... you were gonna do Batgirl." JK Simmons: "That big head Batgirl... Apparently one test audience saw it and it wasn't like it was a bad score from the test audience... It had its own drama attached to it. But then Zack's cut, the director's cut came out, which the DC fans really love, and which is really a lot of fun." "And then when Batgirl came along with Adil and Bilal... it was an exciting prospect to be part of the origin story of Batgirl... Commissioner Gordon's daughter." "We really had a good time making it, and thought it was gonna be a fun superhero movie... one of those stranger stories." "Did you feel like it was a good experience? It was really solid?" "It was very good, yeah... We really had a good time making it."

One of the best arcade games, Gauntlet, had a great TV commercial. Gauntlet was also well-ported to the Commodore 64—that's how I played it. What platform did you play it on?

Back in the ‘90s, there was one arcade game you were almost guaranteed to find: Irem’s Ninja Baseball Bat Man. It was incredibly fun, and with support for up to four players, it was one of the best games to enjoy with friends. But did you know this? While the game was a huge hit in South Korea, it received a fairly lukewarm response in Japan and was released in very limited numbers in North America, making it virtually unknown there. Pretty strange, isn’t it? One of the reasons I loved this game was that, unlike most Irem titles, it wasn’t brutally difficult. You could have a great time with just a single credit. Most Irem games were known for their gritty atmosphere, incredibly detailed pixel art, and punishing difficulty. This one, however, stood out with its bright colors and cute, round character designs, giving it a completely different feel. If you’ve never played it before, do yourself a favor and try it on an emulator.

Hunter Dickinson on his one season playing for Kansas men's basketball "I had expectations coming in of what it was going to be like. And, you know, it was even better than I expected to be able to play for Coach Self, to be able to play with these guys and just be able to play and Allen Fieldhouse...you can kind of almost dream of, you know, when you're growing up playing basketball to be able to play on the stage for this program. You know, obviously it didn't go the way we wanted to, But, you know, I had a lot of fun this year and, you know, I wouldn't trade it for the world."

The PC Engine was so expensive in the late ’80s and early ’90s that it was hard to find even in the homes of well-off friends. On top of that, it had one of the first CD-ROM add-ons, which made it feel incredibly high-tech at the time. Because of its larger storage capacity, many arcade games were ported to it, and the CD-quality audio was absolutely amazing. The real issue, though, was the price. You had to buy everything separately—the PC Engine itself, the CD interface (docking unit), the CD-ROM drive, the system card, and the game CDs.

The PC Engine was actually so expensive that hardly anyone I knew had one back then. It was sometimes called the “Neo Geo of the 8-bit era” because of its high price. In terms of performance, it was arguably closer to the Super Famicom and Mega Drive, which came a few years later, than to the NES and Sega Master System of the same era. Despite its powerful hardware, the console itself was surprisingly small and cute. And the HuCards, which looked like credit cards, were truly fascinating. I couldn’t believe that an entire game could fit onto such a tiny card. Back then, the PC Engine felt like a unicorn among game consoles to me. Even now, whenever I take it out and play it again, it still feels just as fascinating and special.

Yes. I recently "resurrected" my cat PS1 game and even ported it on PC too. I want to do a lot more work on it soon and make some real levels/places for it. Here it is running in 60 FPS natively on PC, but still being a PS1 game at heart... :D

I think a lot of people were introduced to Final Fantasy starting from 7. Since it was released on the PlayStation and became a huge global success, it naturally gained widespread recognition. But among older players, many still remember just how popular 6 was when it came out on the Super Famicom. Personally, Chrono Trigger was an incredible game as well, but compared to the impact that Final Fantasy 6 had on me, it felt slightly less overwhelming. Especially when I listen to that opening theme, I still get chills to this day.

After SNK went bankrupt in 2001, many of its developers moved to Sega Sammy-related companies. One of the games created by that talent on the Atomiswave platform was Dolphin Blue. One of the biggest differences from Metal Slug is its combination of 2D characters and 3D backgrounds, which blend together surprisingly well without feeling out of place. As for the soundtrack, this might just be my impression, but it feels like it borrowed a lot of the spirit of Metal Slug. Unlike Metal Slug, Dolphin Blue has a much brighter and more cheerful atmosphere, and the music fits the game perfectly. The gameplay is fast-paced and fun, but after a short while the difficulty spikes dramatically, and there are quite a few sections where the game slows down, which can hurt the overall experience. Unfortunately, it wasn’t commonly seen in arcades and was never ported to home consoles, so most people have probably never heard of it. It’s a solid game with a lot of charm, which makes it all the more disappointing that it never got the recognition it deserved.

Trevon Diggs played his first game in the Green & Gold. Here's the all-pro corner on how he felt it went as he looks to help this team come postseason time. "It was a great vibe, I had a great time. Everything was fluent. It was fresh but it was good and I enjoyed it a lot." #Packers

The 1990s were a time when SNK and Capcom were fiercely competing to bring their arcade games to home consoles. Capcom kept upgrading its hardware from CPS1 to CPS3, while SNK stuck with a single platform—the Neo Geo—which was powerful enough to keep receiving new releases from 1990 all the way to 2004. Because of that, many SNK games ported to 8-bit and 16-bit consoles often suffered in quality. However, the PC Engine, despite being an 8-bit system, managed to deliver surprisingly strong ports of SNK games thanks to the power of CD technology. That said, it was incredibly expensive at the time, so I could only admire it at game shops. If I had owned one back then and used it to listen to CDs and play games, it probably would have felt even more impressive than a PlayStation 5 Pro does today.

🦌 How was it studying Portuguese? 🐾Honestly... 🐾 It was good 🐾 I really liked it 🐾It was a little difficult, though 🐾 But, it was really fun learning it 🐾Since it was a new language for me 🐾 I'd never learned a new language before 🐾 I've been hearing Korean since I was little, 🐾so Korean came naturally to me 🐾 And Japanese too, I had been doing it for a long time 🐾so I was okay with it. 🐾with English, I hadn't really studied it at all 🐾 This was the first time I properly studied it 🐾 so it was good

Shane Battier says returning to Duke for his senior year cost him about $10,000,000 but winning a national championship and becoming more prepared for the NBA made it worth it “I had a good junior year. I was All-American, averaged about 19 [points] and probably could have came out then. Honestly, it was more important to me to be an impact player when I got to the league, and I felt like I wasn’t there yet. I was a power forward in college. I shot threes, but I was a stretch four essentially” “I knew if I went to the league, okay, I’m in the league. It probably cost me about $10 million for that one extra year I could have squeaked out. But at the time, it matters to me that I want to start. I want to be a good pro for a long time.’ So that last year of work was really important” “The leap of faith going through that process, I knew for where I wanted to be, I had to do it. But what I learned, my readiness… it was great that we won, absolutely. But you realize it really is about the journey and taking advantage of the opportunity. I was super proud of that decision”

Street Fighter Zero (Alpha) 2 was the most popular entry in the series. Compared to the first game, it had much better balance, and the additional characters made it far more appealing. Personally, I didn’t like Alpha 3 because it felt too complicated. I played it a lot in arcades, but I think I played it the most on the PlayStation 1. Do you like this game?

When I heard Daytona USA was coming to the Sega Saturn, I sold all my other consoles and saved up for it. Finally got the Saturn and Daytona running at home—total mind-blow 🤯. Sure, it wasn’t quite arcade-perfect, but just being able to play it at home was enough. By the time Dreamcast came around, the port was almost flawless. Fun fact: Saturn was almost done as a 2D machine, but after seeing PlayStation’s 3D power, Sega tweaked it late—3D performance ended up a bit lacking. Irony is, the same Sega that pioneered 3D with Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter thought consoles weren’t ready yet.
