Do you think this medieval armor is really effective against attacks?

Chain mail was good against slashing attacks not so much against stabbing attacks.

The chainmail would be worn over a padded gambeson hood like this one. The mail is excellent at stopping slashing attacks, but some force or a blade tip can still push through the rings. That’s where the gambeson comes in—it absorbs impact and protects against the inch or so of blade that might penetrate the mail.

Chain mail protects against slashing, not stabbing. It why you would wear layers of differing armor types.

this is pretty dumb not only is this likely fake chainmail bought off of ebay, it was made for defending against slashing, not so much stabbing

Mail was used for thousands of years. It was obviously effective, or nobody would bother making and encumbering themselves with it.

What do you think this thing is used for? Is it to prevent mice from getting in or to prevent clogged drains?

Why do you think people bothered wearing it for so long? Of course, it is effective. Not 100% effective, but effective enough to be worth the hassle.

The gambeson and padding helped of course, but the maile would need to be welded or wedge riveted to be truly effective. You can go through butted maile with a sharp pencil. Didn’t do a lot against crushing weapons tho but I would have still preferred to have it as opposed to not.

Every form of armor had its purpose for specific types of damage. Here you are using Piercing against chainmail which is what it is weak against. Chain maille is for Slashing Gambeson(Padding) is for blunt Plate Mail is for piercing. They are generally all worn together

Yes... In ancient times, warriors wore this armor during battles and famous wars. And it was probably the best armor.

You're only stabbing. its defense against slashing. It also was typically worn with other forms of protection. What's your point? (pun intended)

Chain mail is for slash style attacks. Plated armor worked better against direct stabs.

Chain mail was not against stabs, but slashes. Shields and later plate mail were used against stabs. As they say. Chainmail turns edged weapons into blunt ones, but there is still a risk of being stabbed or hit by an arrow

Ask german police, they have lots of experience by now...

If you 've seen any video of some moron swinging a real sword around you'd know the real hazard is slashing wounds.
