Doctors told my parents that I would certainly commit suicide if I wasn’t allowed to transition medically as a child. They exploited my family for personal and financial gain while harming me. Grateful for the opportunity to go on Tim Pool last night!!

Same thing happened with me, psychologist said “do you want a unalive girl or a living boy”. Had my ex crying, I asked what’s the % that go through GAC and end everything. Oh it’s way higher, but never produced evidence. I hope we can financially impact them for the lies so no more children are harmed!

I am the first born at home and my parents often told me I was their guinea pig since they had never been parents before. I took the opportunity to milk that phrase on Monday 19th February when I told my parents that they were my guinea pig for the Foot Prints podcast. In 2009, after two back surgeries, my doctors told me I would never walk again without the assistance of a cane or walker. I gave up. l wrote out my suicide note and was ready to end it all. But, in that moment, my three-year-old son Matthew walked into my bedroom and saved my life. I truly believe it was an intervention from God. After that moment, I cried out to God and told him that if he showed me the way, I would put in the hard work to dig myself out of that bed and dig my family out of poverty. My mindset changed. I used to see myself as a victim. I would ask myself "Why me?" After that moment, I started to tell myself "Why not me?" I worked hard to overcome the obstacles I faced in my life and I will work even harder to become the first black Republican elected to Congress in the history of Ohio.

Why am I not even surprised by this, I’m afraid if more and teachers have this epiphany then we won’t have any left to teach our kids. This woman used to be a teacher with a master’s degree. I can’t imagine devoting that much time and money to a profession only to find out I could make more just working a normal job. I think more and more that higher education is possibly turning into a scam. Growing up I was always told to focus on school, get an education and I will soar. Not too long after that I found out that wasn’t the case. I don’t even use my degree at all, I got it because I was told by my parents I had to. I worked two jobs while in school so I could graduate without debt, only to put it on the wall and forget about it. I later on went the family business route anyways as I always planned on doing. I feel I was pressured and sold a pipe dream that a degree would be the answer to anything financial for me, that it would unlock possibilities. For me, it closed many doors, many employers saw me as being overqualified. The turning point for me was when I used to go to a hotel with co-workers after work and I got to know my server. Turned out he had a degree in a similar field to mine and he was waiting on tables and in massive student debt because of it. I can tell the college dream turned into a nightmare for him. To spend thousands and not be able to use it to recoup my money would make me feel like the biggest fool around. I felt like if anyone came by to sell me magic beans, I would have a beanstalk in my yard. While not using my degree worked for me, there are so many more others that can’t say the same.

First, I would like to thank god for blessing me with the opportunities that have been given to me. Through these opportunities I have gotten to learn and grow as a man. Thank you to coach Drinkwitz for giving me the opportunity to play football at the University of Missouri. I would like to thank coach Russell and the entire strength staff for pushing me mentally and physically everyday to make myself a better athlete and man. Thank you to all of the coaches that I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with and learn from over the past 3 years. I would like to thank the entire academic department for helping me reach my goals academically while at Mizzou. Finally, I would like to thank all of the teammates that I have played with over my time at Mizzou. I have made connections, friendships, and memories that will last a lifetime and I am sincerely grateful for all of them. Yesterday, 50 years ago, I was forced to leave everything I had ever known behind. In the dark haze of the morning, my family and I fled as everything around us crumbled. Saigon had fallen, and so had the lives my family had built for us. Fortunate to be embraced by American kindness and opportunity, I earned my place as an American and Texan.
