A few years ago Jessi asked me if I would be interested in being her next co-host for the Bardown Beauties Podcast. People have always asked me how that came to be and this is how. I knew of Jessi when I started working with the Wild, and interacted with her initially when I was a guest on the podcast and then she and Alexis were guests on the show I hosted for the Wild at the time. But, the first summer I spent working for DaBeauty League was where I went from knowing Jessi as a professional and got to know Jessi on an incredibly personal level. This was the stuff we did that summer. We talked about life, we had fun, and she signed herself up to get some of her hair shaved off. This is one of the videos I’ve watched over and over these last few days because this is where it really all started and I’m forever grateful for it.

🐹 “Back to Life” was made about two or three years ago. I really wanted to try making a full-on rock song, so I told producer Helix that I wanted to make something like that and asked him to send me a track. He sent me one, and then I started working on it. Even the very first draft had all English lyrics. Back then, I wrote everything by myself, so there were a lot of grammatical mistakes and parts where the expressions weren’t strong enough. I kept it as a guide for a while, and then this year, when talk came up about doing a SKZ-PLAYER, I thought maybe this would be the right song to bring back out. So I asked LB to work on the lyrics. Based on the message I wanted to convey, I asked him to help fix the grammar and flesh things out more, and that’s how the song was completed. I think this was the right timing to release it. So I rerecorded everything, revised the track too, and that’s how it came out. 🐹 “Where did you make ‘Back to Life’?” I made it at my old studio, not the one I’m using now. 🐹 “What program do you use?” Cubase! 🐹 “When did you film the music video?” You know how I sent that Bubble message really early in the morning saying that I was going to do a lot this year? I think I also said there was something I really wanted to show you. That was actually the day we filmed it.

Jayson Tatum on his message of gratitude to the team yesterday: “It was one, just being vulnerable, showing my appreciation to the team, of how they have played this season, how they motivated me every single day. The joy and competitive nature that they displayed, I wanted to be a part of that. And I say it all the time, going through rehab and being injured is lonely. It's not intentional. I couldn't practice for a while, I couldn't be in the game. When they were on the court, I was in the weight room, having to do my own thing. So you feel isolated, in a sense. “But I just expressed that being around as much as possible, going to games, being on the plane, really made me feel like I was still very much a part of the team, and how thankful to the group for just being themselves. I was thankful to the coaches that extended their days a lot by helping me during rehab and on the court and pick-up games [for] my conditioning. So I really just kind of telling everybody in the room that they all played a part in essentially helping me get to this moment.”

STAR WARS hit screens on this day in 1977. It was one of the first films I saw in the theater. Because it was in theaters for over a year (like RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK would be four years later), I can’t be sure if I saw it in 1977 or 1978, but I do know that I was very young. I remember going with my mom, that it was a matinee, and that we sat in the middle. The seats stand out to me because I remember I had to use the restroom in the middle of the climactic battle scene :) I’d see it multiple times in the theater over its run and would see THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI on their opening weekends. And yes, I remember the marketing for the third film when it was called REVENGE OF THE JEDI. If you did not live through it, it is hard to describe the STAR WARS mania that gripped the country in 1977 and lasted through RETURN OF THE JEDI in 1983. From lines at the theaters to toys to costumes to books to the infamous 1978 STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it was an amazing time to be a kid and witness the magic of the movies firsthand through a phenomenon you knew was something extremely special. I can’t be 100% sure that STAR WARS was my first movie in the theater, as during that timeframe I also saw WATERSHIP DOWN (traumatic) and THE RESCUERS (dark) as a double feature with my dad (we had to travel to a city and I found a 9mm bullet in the street – a bullet I still have today), CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND with my grandmother (where I tripped running to the theater with a bowl of popcorn that was almost bigger than I was and spilling it all over the hallway - and I remember how nice the guy was behind the counter who gave us another one for free), and a double feature of ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN and THE BLACK HOLE, but in looking at the dates of those two films I think it was after STAR WARS and that the theater paired an older film (ESCAPE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN – 1975) with a new film (THE BLACK HOLE – 1979). I just watched the original three films with my youngest son, and it brings me right back…probably the closest I can get to a time machine.

Jackie Gleason, the legendary American comedian and star of "The Honeymooners", on the time he got CBS to send him a private train to Miami: In the 1960s, Gleason decided he didn't want to shoot his show in New York anymore. He wanted to do it in Miami, and he wanted to get there in style. "When we're doing the Honeymooners, I had a big contract for that for two years. And after the first year, I said I didn't want to do it. And they didn't believe me. They thought I had a job somewhere else. And finally, they realized that I just didn't want to do it." When the network came back asking him to do another show, Gleason was in California making a picture. He said yes, but with one condition: "I said, 'All right.' I said, 'But I want a train that goes to Florida.' Because I had come down here and played golf and liked it and I figured might as well go to Florida and do the show. Play golf all the time and they went for it." They went for it. What followed was a rolling party across the country. Gleason describes what was on the train: "Everything. We had two Dixieland bands come from California and they would spell each other. I'd say to them, 'Take five miles,' and the parties went on 24 hours." Asked if there were girls on the train, he laughs: "Boy, there were girls. There certainly were. And they were very, very nice girls. Nothing on it happened. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it didn't. Might have been because the berths were too small, but regardless of that, nothing happened on that trip." Asked if there was a bar on the train, his answer is perfect: "A bar. The train was a bar. I guess that's a classic example of what clout is." Then he delivers the line that sums up the whole story: "'Send a train, please.' That's right. When you've got good ratings and you're one, two, or three in the ratings, there is nothing your little heart desires that they don't provide."

He wanted to do it in Miami, and he wanted to get there in style. "When we're doing the Honeymooners, I had a big contract for that for two years. And after the first year, I said I didn't want to do it. And they didn't believe me. They thought I had a job somewhere else. And finally, they realized that I just didn't want to do it." When the network came back asking him to do another show, Gleason was in California making a picture. He said yes, but with one condition: "I said, 'All right.' I said, 'But I want a train that goes to Florida.' Because I had come down here and played golf and liked it and I figured might as well go to Florida and do the show. Play golf all the time and they went for it." They went for it. What followed was a rolling party across the country. Gleason describes what was on the train: "Everything. We had two Dixieland bands come from California and they would spell each other. I'd say to them, 'Take five miles,' and the parties went on 24 hours." Asked if there were girls on the train, he laughs: "Boy, there were girls. There certainly were. And they were very, very nice girls. Nothing on it happened. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it didn't. Might have been because the berths were too small, but regardless of that, nothing happened on that trip." Asked if there was a bar on the train, his answer is perfect: "A bar. The train was a bar. I guess that's a classic example of what clout is." Then he delivers the line that sums up the whole story: "'Send a train, please.' That's right. When you've got good ratings and you're one, two, or three in the ratings, there is nothing your little heart desires that they don't provide."
