It works if you're willing to be a student in the process. I think it backfires when YOU prematurely start to believe you earned whatever it is on merit alone. Stay humble.

There is a very thin line between confidence development and delusion. Most crossover to the delusional aspect of life trying to develop their confidence in embodiment of who they aspire to be. By the time they realize it, they no longer recognize themselves.
