Commuting across the capital has turned into an ordeal, with many passengers complaining that trains without air conditioning are almost unbearable. Home offers little relief either, as not everyone can afford to install air conditioning. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued only the second heat-health alert in its history, the first having been declared during the extreme heatwave of 2022. The agency warned that the unusually high temperatures pose a risk even to healthy people and urged older adults to take extra precautions as the heat continues to grip the country.
