Does this deserve an ejection? Yes, the catcher

LL/Junior/HS umpire here: No. I’m warning the catcher, if I see it again, he is confined to the bench.

Blocked plate intentionally, threw his hip intentionally, acted offended like the tool his father probably is. Behavior is learned.

Absolutely not … he could have trucked him. Can’t block the plate like that. Some will say “gotta slide” and if he did that he would have spiked the kid in the ankle risking injury. He actually slowed and kept the catcher up on his feet. As a coach I’d say just slide nx time

This is like a perfect summary of life as we know it right now.. I’ll call this one: “What the HECK BRO!?”

Loudly call obstruction. Idk if I’m going to eject, but I’m going to make a scene of it to make sure he knows it won’t happen again. Idk that I can eject because it’s not “malicious”, but I guess it could be “unsporting.”

Get the fuck off the plate if there’s no play, lucky the runner didn’t bowl him over like they used to be allowed to do. In the 90’s, I would’ve assumed there was a ball incoming and would’ve absolutely football stuck him in the ribs.

This is more about coaching. Some shit that is going on in baseball in travel ball and at younger ages is embarrassing. No respect for the game whatsoever. Why is the catcher even doing this? Parents and coaching are failing these kids, man.

No, runner actually handled it well.

No ejection but warning and quick trigger if he does or says anything to instigate going forward.

The runner no. The catcher yes. He doesn't have the ball and is standing on the plate.

The catcher for acting entitled. If you're upset, son, throw a punch. Looking to the ump to save you is so 2026.

Slide into those ankles. Bush-league deserves a bush-league response.

Neither. Punk play by catcher but no ejection. Just my thoughts

Catchers lucky the guy laid off. I would have trucked the ever loving shit out of this guy.

We were taught to block the plate .. we didn’t cry when got hit. Neither did the runner.. back when baseball was great game. We didn’t fight or throw at each other. We respected each other and played hard. Unfortunately the waaa wasaas have taken over all sports

Nah, warning that if not in possession of the ball or that there is a throw having been made to your position that you CANNOT block the plate or you'll be ejected.

Some of the comments on here are comical and it just shows how many people have no clue of the NFHS rules.

Catcher should be warned, runner should be thanked for not plowing the catcher over which should’ve happened. Guaranteed opposing coach told his runners to run through him.

No, this clearly deserves the Umpire laying down a huge important teaching moment here. Look how young they are, they don’t know the rules. Their coaches probably failed to give that catcher these reps of this situation too. Huge teaching opportunities all around here

Nope. Just a slap

Yes, the catcher. Obstruction and put a hip into kid.

Runner should have slid… spikes straight to the ankles.

Runner safe because of obstruction.

Haha. I was the coach in that game for team in blue. Catcher got ejected and we won the state title

Yes- can’t block the plate without the ball or being in the act of fielding a throw. AND initiated contact with the base runner while he slowed and looked to avoid contact

Can’t block the plate if there isn’t a play.

Just take him out and he won’t cover the plate again

Clueless baseball and 🤡 move

It's obstruction blocking the plate without the ball, but since there was no play the runner was safe anyway. I think there is a pretty good case for malicious contact by the catcher for standing his ground and hip checking the runner. There's no reason for him to make contact.

Catcher stood in the base path and even gave a hip check. The runner should have pulled an old school Pete Rose on his ass

The catcher cannot block home plate if he’s not making a play or does not have a ball. The catcher should be ejected.

Definitely a warning. If this is a repeat or a pattern, then ejection is warranted.

Yes the catcher for standing right on top of the plate and then tries to hipcheck the runner. The runner could've easily laid him out

Maybe on the catcher. I’d let him know it was unnecessary
