That is exactly the point of multilateralism: not to pretend the difficulties of our world are not there, but to address them together. That is not automatic. It is a choice. A choice to prioritise health. A choice to recognise that no country can address today’s health challenges alone. A choice to work through World Health Organization (WHO), not only as an institution, but as a shared platform for shared action. I thank you for that choice.

More than 100 million people nationwide have been under air quality alerts due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. This is not just an inconvenience. This smoke has impacts on the health and well-being of individuals and families. That’s why I’m introducing a resolution calling for greater action from the Canadian government to prevent and fight wildfires. With more than 3,640 wildfires in Canada this year alone, it’s clear that more action needs to be taken to prevent and stop these fires.
