Donkey Kong Country came out in 1994 and it STILL blows my mind what Rare pulled off on the SNES. They absolutely maxed out the hardware limits. Visuals are still gorgeous today, and that soundtrack belongs in a museum.

Rare's pre-rendered sprites are the whole story here, and they aged worse than the gameplay. DKC looks like a tech demo now; Mario World still looks designed. Which SNES platformer actually holds up visually?
