Exactly, Kennedy’s proposal is straight-up common sense. Make Congress feel the consequences of their shutdown games, and suddenly they might think twice before punishing everyday Americans.

The part I disagree with: the check doesn’t get locked in a vault, it gets forfeited. If the government is shut down, there’s no pay for legislators, and they don’t get back pay after the shutdown ends. You don’t get paid for not doing your job.

CONVENTION OF THE STATES. I actually think Governor DeSantis had mentioned this about getting states to sign on to have term limits for Congress. We need it to add a few more rules while we're at it. Also the Constitution did not allow direct election of senators!

Politicians should also be required to have the same insurance / pension plans as government employees. After all, they are solely responsible for the debt burden.

I think that the senate should not get paid period for the time during a shutdown (no back pay) and not be able to leave DC.

Their paychecks don't matter. That's not the income they "enjoy" at our cost. Their real money comes from spousal or familial "charities" and NGOs, their "consultation" fees for their kids and the their grandkids. We've got to close the loop on their income while "serving" the public.

These are two other items that should be put in the Save America Act: 1. Congress people during government shutdown should not be paid at all whatsoever and they cannot leave Washington, D.C. at all under any circumstances. 2. If you put that in the bill and you pass the Save Act, then no side of government can hold the American people hostage for what another side wants or doesn't want.

Great idea, but 85% of Americans want the Save America Act passed, and look how that's going. Congress would never pass a bill that would restrict themselves.

And NONE of their staff would get pay or back pay. Congress is too rich to care about losing a few paychecks. Take away their staff's checks will actually be painful. And end all their benefits during shutdowns.
