Katsuhiro Otomo did not spend 4 years making the most influential anime film of all time for you to call it "Devil's Circuit"

That punch :)

love the nostalgic vibes in this clip! But just a quick heads-up for accuracy—this is actually from the 1992 OVA ダウンロード 南無阿弥陀仏は愛の詩 (Download: Namu Amida Butsu wa Ai no Uta). The real title translates roughly to "Download: Namu Amida Butsu is a Poem/Song of Love" (or sometimes "Song in Loving Homage to Amida Buddha"). "Namu Amida Butsu" is the core Buddhist chant invoking Amitabha Buddha's compassion and salvation—super merciful and loving theme, which ties into the cyberpunk story about a monk-hacker saving souls in a digital world. "Devil's Circuit" (or Devil Circuit) is an alternate English title that popped up on some old VHS/LD releases and fan subs, but it kinda misses the mark. "Devil" gives off evil/demonic vibes, which clashes hard with the original's Buddhist mercy + love angle. Most reliable sources (like Wikipedia, ANN, MAL) list the proper ones as the Namu Amida Butsu versions. Still an absolute gem of '90s cyberpunk though—Rintaro directing, killer animation, that wild aesthetic! Thanks for posting, made my day (If anyone's hunting subs, the "Namu Amida Butsu" titled ones usually keep the spirit better )

Dude got hit in the head and locked tf in

This scene perfectly illustrates how exaggerated animation with expressive acting and visual planning, allowing freedom for individual animator styles, works beautifully in any type of cartoon, not just comedy. Unfortunately, people like John Kricfalusi ruined its reputation

oh yeah i can tell yoshinori kanada worked on this. there’s heavy use of foreshortening and squash and stretch here. i love the way the lights were animated at 0:18 it’s so fluid and liquidy gah !

90s animation was just vastly superior.

@retro_anime The animators knew what they where doing

😉

The OVA era was so wild. Animators were so drunk with power that even a shot of a woman casually leaning back onto a chair during a conversation would be the most elaborate and expressive thing you’ve ever seen

Wtf your telling me they made this baddie and no one told me

Pure visual madness! 🧪 Download: Devil's Circuit (1992) isn't just cyberpunk gold; it’s a gritty masterpiece where a hacker monk fights a suicidal virus in a neon-soaked fever dream. 🤔 Fun Fact: Despite the futuristic setting, the soundtrack is a wild experiment of blues and Buddhist chants. It was composed by Hiroshi Kamayatsu, a 1960s Japanese rock legend, who ditched the era’s typical heavy synths for a funky, spiritual soul that you won't find in any other anime. 🎤✨ Did you know? 🤯

Damn she's cute.
