Fans were taking selfies with addicts sitting in the background smoking "blues." Not enough police to keep up with enforcement on the weekends. The Sameer Project continues our “Futorkom Ma’a Sameer Ahla” campaign. This time we provided 100 meals of spiced rice, each bag with enough portions for a family, to al-Qasem displacement camp in Deir Al Balah while another 30 were handed out to people passing by on the streets. Food is not the only thing that is scarce right now in Gaza, so is cash. Liquidity is at an all time low due to the borders being locked down by the occupation and new cash boxes unable to enter, in addition to that is the lack of circulation of money within the markets because there is limited goods available to buy. This is causing the exchange rate to plummet and commissions to withdraw the cash to rise since physical currency is difficult to find. This is hindering our ability to make purchases that require cash to assist people. The 130 Iftar meals cost $490 after a 30% commission. We also provide plates of qatayef, a type of stuffed dessert, that the women in our camp make. They also receive a 30 shekel stipend for their skilled cooking of the ingredients we purchase in the market for around 300 shekels.
