please do some commentary and don’t just post these videos as if her arguments speak for themselves. In the first two minutes she starts comparing apples to oranges by tryna use a historical connection that only lands 1:1 in the academy. These studies need so much more depth

I’m not an expert on spanking, so I’m going off what experts say. But if she’s wrong, I’m guessing you can share some research that proves it. Also, I don’t think she’s saying there’s a perfect one to one connection—that would be a reach. It sounds more like she’s saying the way we treat kids today is shaped by things that go back to slavery and Jim Crow. I can imagine the ways that we think about “protection” is connected to how we discipline ourselves and children. For example, teaching your kids not to talk back to whites during slavery and Jim Crow could be the difference between life and death. Those kind of practices have shaped how we understand discipline. Do you believe that is a stretch?
