“Ayaan Hirsi Ali was challenged over her views on Islam and Sharia law… but the debate quickly turned explosive.” Speaker: Ayaan, you've been quoted as saying that if refugees are coming to this part of the world and bringing their misogynistic views on Sharia law, then they'd better just take a legal U-turn. People have said Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Donald Trump are speaking the same language. So how do you feel about being on the same side as Trump? Ayaan Hirsi Ali: I've been doing this for about the last 14 or 15 years, and maybe I'm allowed a sigh. Because number one, I'm amazed at the betrayal of Muslim women who, for whatever reason, have had an education and are able to emancipate themselves from Islamic law, insisting that Islamic law is not what it is and that we don't understand it. We live in the Information Age. We are literate. Any of us here can pick up the Holy Quran and read the Hadith. And beyond that, because we live in this age of interconnectedness, we can take a look at the facts of where Islamic law is implemented, what it looks like for everyone, and typically what it looks like for women. Saudi Arabia is a country that implements Sharia law. Women are not allowed to drive. They have male guardians. Their testimony is worth half of that of men. They are subjected to every possible humiliation that you can think of. Ayatollah Khomeini, in 1979, with a great deal of public approval, became the Supreme Leader. He implemented Sharia law, Islamic law. One of the first things that he did, he reduced the age of marriage to nine. Everywhere where Islamic law is implemented, you have exactly that. Speaker: Who's the "they"? Ayaan Hirsi Ali: Those who are pushing for Sharia law and those who want to implement Sharia law. Speaker: But none of us are, so that's not a matter of debate. Ayaan Hirsi Ali: The Prophet Muhammad took Aisha, one of his wives after Khadijah died, when she was six, and had sex with her when she was nine. That is Sharia law. TCEQ applications should be secure and they haven't done this despite Abbott's directive in April to halt work until permits are, permits are secured. And then the educational content that they're teaching that conflicts with American civic values.” This isn't standard urban planning. Sharia councils (which are completely unregulated) have condoned wife beating, told wives to reconcile with abusive husbands and dismissed the idea of "marital rape". We live in an age of great leaps forward for humanity: Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, driverless cars, tourist trips to space etc. etc. It is preposterous that in such an advanced age, women's lives are still being ruled by medieval laws. We are all equal under the law. One law for all. That principle must stand. Why, then, is Britain the "Sharia capital" of the West? We have more Sharia councils than anyone else and British Muslims help set up Sharia councils in other Western countries. 60%-80% of Muslim marriages in the UK are Sharia only, with no civil registration (thus denying "wives" protection from English courts). This is the highest in the Western world. Some morons will reply: "Sharia is voluntary and has no legal recognition or force in the UK". Tell that to the Muslim women who are forced to go to Sharia councils and who are forced (by their religious leaders, their husbands, their families and their wider community) to accept the rulings - rulings made by ultra-conservative / extremist / Islamist men. If you fear the religion of Islam and the way of life that Islam teaches, implementing things like Sharia law and Jihad you are either uneducated on it or you lack basic critical thinking skills. So no, there's no such thing as Islamophobia. If you don't fear a religion whose holy text teaches you that you should kill nonbelievers if they fight you back, you're not that smart. If you don't fear a religion that teaches you that women are property of men and to be used and disposed, you're not that smart. If you don't fear a religion that has produced extremism because they have interpreted jihad to justify terrorism, you're not that smart. If you follow a prophet who married a 9-year-old when he was 53 years old, and you think that that's okay, you're not that great. In fact, Mohammad only had a hundred followers before he introduced the concept of Jihad, and then he went and executed 900 Jews, and he started the growth of this religion because people didn't wanna die. None of these fears are illogical, which is what a phobia is. If you don't want Sharia law implemented, if you want a separation of church and state, which is something that Islam does not practice and does not teach, if you don't want that, you're not Islamophobic. You don't have an irrational fear. You have a very rational fear. Many Islamic communities believe that women have half of a brain. An example of Sharia Law is if a woman is raped, it has to be witnessed by four other people in a court of law, if the court of law does not find the perpetrator guilty, she can be executed. I'm scared of that, rightfully so. I'm scared of a religion that terrorism comes out of. I'm scared of a religion that does not wanna separate church and state, so there's no such thing as Islamophobia. Because of that would mean it's an irrational fear and there's nothing irrational about fearing Islam.
