They'll write laws that keep your schools underfunded, your hospitals understaffed, and your neighborhoods over-policed; without ever raising their voice or showing their face. Think about it: the redlining policies in the U.S. didn’t come from hate-filled mobs; they came from suits in government offices who ensured Black families were locked out of generational wealth through housing. Apartheid in South Africa wasn’t fueled by daily insults; it was a legal framework that dictated where you could live, study, or work, purely based on skin color. Racism is a system built to preserve power and privilege, not express hatred. That’s why a racist can smile at you, promote "diversity," or even marry across race; and still benefit from structures that keep you marginalized. It’s not about how they feel about you. It’s about what they’re willing to let you access or deny you to stay on top.
