Driver Dies After Fleeing Deputy and Crashing Belcamp, Maryland — June 9, 2026 — A fatal police-involved collision occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. after a Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. Route 40 (Pulaski Highway), according to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID). The deputy activated emergency equipment, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. During the flight, the vehicle struck another vehicle at the intersection of Route 40 and Riverside Parkway, triggering a collision involving three additional vehicles. Five vehicles were ultimately involved, including the fleeing vehicle, and each was occupied only by its driver. The fleeing vehicle caught fire, and flames spread to one of the other vehicles. The fleeing driver was trapped and pronounced dead at the scene. Two drivers from the uninvolved vehicles were transported to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy involved was identified by the IID as Senior Deputy Allen Jennings, a 10-year veteran assigned to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in southern Utah came to a quick end when a Washington County sheriff's deputy deployed a Grappler Police Bumper, wrapping a tether around the vehicle's rear tire. The pursuit began Wednesday after police were alerted to a vehicle reported stolen out of California entering Utah on I-15 from Arizona. Deputies say the driver repeatedly refused to stop and even tried to take off again after the Grappler was deployed, backing up in an attempt to break free. It didn't work. Police responded to a reported theft at a Walmart. Two women and the child got into a silver sedan and attempted to leave. When officers tried to block the vehicle, the driver allegedly steered toward one of them. An officer then opened fire into the windshield. The vehicle fled to a local hospital, where the child, identified as Kohen Kartier Wiley, was pronounced dead. The driver remains hospitalized in critical condition. The child’s mother was not injured. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump and the family are demanding the release of body camera footage. Newly released video shows Utah County sheriff’s deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers stopping a wrong-way driver on I-15 early last month. According to the original incident report, two deputies responded to an agency assist after reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near mile marker 263. Deputies located the vehicle near mile marker 269. One deputy struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, spinning it into another deputy’s patrol car, which prevented the wrong-way vehicle from reentering traffic. Both deputies and both occupants of the vehicle were not injured. All three vehicles sustained damage. Utah Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation and investigated the driver for DUI. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened shortly after 4 a.m. on Jan. 24, calling wrong-way driving a recurring and dangerous problem on Utah roadways. The sheriff’s office praised the deputies for putting themselves in harm’s way and said it is grateful no one was hurt. UHP continues to handle the crash and DUI investigation.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the man started driving before allegedly hitting a woman and crashing into a CTA bus multiple times. "The vehicle struck an adult female pedestrian in the street and continued to flee... [He] struck the bus multiple times with the vehicle and struck an unmarked squad car," police said, adding that a gun was recovered from the vehicle. "As officers attempted to stop the vehicle and place the driver into custody, one officer discharged their service weapon, striking the offender." The man was hit in the chest and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating a fatal collision that shut down Highway 44 at Township Road 572, northwest of Edmonton, on Monday morning. YEGWAVE has obtained dash cam footage from the scene. Police issued a public advisory shortly after 8:15 a.m. A 31-year-old man, the sole occupant of a Dodge Charger, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 72-year-old man driving a GMC pickup was taken to hospital with injuries. The highway reopened around noon.
