Newly released video shows Utah County sheriff’s deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers stopping a wrong-way driver on I-15 early last month. According to the original incident report, two deputies responded to an agency assist after reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15 near... mile marker 263. Deputies located the vehicle near mile marker 269. One deputy struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, spinning it into another deputy’s patrol car, which prevented the wrong-way vehicle from reentering traffic. Both deputies and both occupants of the vehicle were not injured. All three vehicles sustained damage. Utah Highway Patrol took over the crash investigation and investigated the driver for DUI. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened shortly after 4 a.m. on Jan. 24, calling wrong-way driving a recurring and dangerous problem on Utah roadways. The sheriff’s office praised the deputies for putting themselves in harm’s way and said it is grateful no one was hurt. UHP continues to handle the crash and DUI investigation.show more

Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. Utah Highway Patrol was notified around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning of a black Tesla #CyberTruck stopped in the left-turn lane at the top of the I-15 northbound off-ramp at 10600 South in Sandy. The complainant reported the vehicle was running with someone inside and had remained stationary through multiple traffic light cycles. A UHP trooper arrived on scene at approximately 2:44 a.m. and found the #CyberTruck still sitting in the turn lane. UDOT traffic camera footage showed it took several minutes for the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver was put through field sobriety tests, and by 3:04 a.m., the driver was in handcuffs. According to radio traffic, the driver was allegedly detained for suspicion of DUI. Utah Highway Patrol was notified around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning of a black Tesla #CyberTruck stopped in the left-turn lane at the top of the I-15 northbound off-ramp at 10600 South in Sandy. The complainant reported the vehicle was running with someone inside and had remained stationary through multiple traffic light cycles. A UHP trooper arrived on scene at approximately 2:44 a.m. and found the #CyberTruck still sitting in the turn lane. UDOT traffic camera footage showed it took several minutes for the driver to exit the vehicle. The driver was put through field sobriety tests, and by 3:04 a.m., the driver was in handcuffs. According to radio traffic, the driver was allegedly detained for suspicion of DUI. Gaining entry to a locked #CyberTruck can be difficult, so it was fortunate troopers were able to get the driver’s attention to open the door.
