A driver led police on a pursuit Sunday evening around 7 p.m. after initially fleeing a traffic stop in East Bethel for equipment and seatbelt violations. State Patrol first attempted the stop near Highway 65 and Viking Blvd. NE after noticing the vehicle had no rear lights and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver fled and began driving the wrong way southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 65. Troopers discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns. The driver later corrected, and Anoka County deputies re-engaged the pursuit in Blaine. Authorities say the driver again drove the wrong way on Highway 65, continuing onto County Rd. 10 and then Interstate 694 before exiting onto Lexington Ave. in Shoreview, where Ramsey County deputies took over. The pursuit continued south on Lexington Ave. N. to Highway 36, then west to Interstate 35W into Minneapolis. Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, but the driver continued at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was again called off. The vehicle exited into downtown Minneapolis, where dispatchers lost visual tracking through traffic cameras. Officers are searching the area for the driver, and the State Patrol airplane will be overhead to assist shortly.

Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

Douglas County deputies responded immediately and set up two sets of stop sticks along E-470 in an attempt to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion. Despite these efforts, the suspect vehicle continued westbound. A Douglas County Deputy, operating a patrol vehicle equipped with the Grappler device, joined the pursuit along with another deputy. After positioning behind the suspect, both maneuvered to the front of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle, which struck the concrete barrier multiple times, was ultimately stopped when our deputy successfully deployed the Grappler just west of South Quebec Street. The vehicle was brought to an immediate and controlled stop. The suspect was compliant and taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. I-85 Kangaroo Update From ALEA A two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, involving a kangaroo. The crash occurred in the southbound lane of Interstate 85 near the 46 mile marker in Macon County. Eventually both the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the 46 mile marker were closed while Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division along with the animal’s owner conducted a recovery of the kangaroo. The animal has now been recovered, and the roadway is back open. The kangaroo was not injured in the crash. Video from Austin Price

Yesterday (4/22/26), deputies and FHP Orlando troopers responded to multiple reports of hit-and-run crashes involving a reckless driver on I-4, starting in Seminole County. Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle hit a guardrail, lost a front wheel and continued driving, exiting I-4 and getting stuck at a construction site off Shell Road in DeBary. Deputies detained the driver, Eric Drewry (DOB 8/28/1978), who appeared to be under the influence. He resisted and kicked a deputy while being escorted into the back of a patrol vehicle. While being questioned by a trooper about the crash, Drewry responded "What crash?" While being transported to the hospital Drewry asked deputies multiple times to be released in exchange for $2,000. Instead, he was charged with resisting and battery on law enforcement by VSO, and DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and refusal to submit to DUI testing (subsequent offense) by FHP.

The driver backed a (stolen) car into the doors, then pried his way into the church. When deputies arrived, they saw the vehicle leaving the scene. A deputy tried to pull over the driver, who fled. After a short pursuit, stop sticks were deployed, which disabled the vehicle. The suspect stopped and surrendered without further incident. The suspect, who is not a resident of Douglas County, is facing charges of second degree burglary, first degree motor vehicle theft, felony eluding and driving under the influence. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “I am proud of my deputies who reacted quickly and took a criminal off the streets. We continue to warn thieves and burglars that Douglas County is not a place where you can victimize our residents, businesses, and places of worship.”

Driver Dies After Fleeing Deputy and Crashing Belcamp, Maryland — June 9, 2026 — A fatal police-involved collision occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. after a Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. Route 40 (Pulaski Highway), according to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID). The deputy activated emergency equipment, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. During the flight, the vehicle struck another vehicle at the intersection of Route 40 and Riverside Parkway, triggering a collision involving three additional vehicles. Five vehicles were ultimately involved, including the fleeing vehicle, and each was occupied only by its driver. The fleeing vehicle caught fire, and flames spread to one of the other vehicles. The fleeing driver was trapped and pronounced dead at the scene. Two drivers from the uninvolved vehicles were transported to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy involved was identified by the IID as Senior Deputy Allen Jennings, a 10-year veteran assigned to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit. Jennings arrived moments after the collision, and additional deputies and emergency personnel provided medical assistance. Driver Dies After Fleeing Deputy and Crashing Belcamp, Maryland — June 9, 2026 — A fatal police-involved collision occurred at approximately 3:25 p.m. after a Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on U.S. Route 40 (Pulaski Highway), according to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID). The deputy activated emergency equipment, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. During the flight, the vehicle struck another vehicle at the intersection of Route 40 and Riverside Parkway, triggering a collision involving three additional vehicles. Five vehicles were ultimately involved, including the fleeing vehicle, and each was occupied only by its driver. The fleeing vehicle caught fire, and flames spread to one of the other vehicles. The fleeing driver was trapped and pronounced dead at the scene. Two drivers from the uninvolved vehicles were transported to area hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy involved was identified by the IID as Senior Deputy Allen Jennings, a 10-year veteran assigned to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
