A driver led police on a pursuit Sunday evening around 7 p.m. after initially fleeing a traffic stop in East Bethel for equipment and seatbelt violations. State Patrol first attempted the stop near Highway 65 and Viking Blvd. NE after noticing the vehicle had no rear lights and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver fled and began driving the wrong way southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 65. Troopers discontinued the pursuit due to safety concerns. The driver later corrected, and Anoka County deputies re-engaged the pursuit in Blaine. Authorities say the driver again drove the wrong way on Highway 65, continuing onto County Rd. 10 and then Interstate 694 before exiting onto Lexington Ave. in Shoreview, where Ramsey County deputies took over. The pursuit continued south on Lexington Ave. N. to Highway 36, then west to Interstate 35W into Minneapolis. Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, but the driver continued at a high rate of speed and the pursuit was again called off. The vehicle exited into downtown Minneapolis, where dispatchers lost visual tracking through traffic cameras. Officers are searching the area for the driver, and the State Patrol airplane will be overhead to assist shortly.

Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. Douglas County Deputies Assist in DUI Pursuit with Successful Grappler Deployment In the early hours of October 4, 2025, at approximately 4:22 A.M., Douglas County Deputies responded to assist the Aurora Police Department in pursuit of a suspected DUI driver traveling westbound on E-470, passing Gartrell Road. Douglas County deputies responded immediately and set up two sets of stop sticks along E-470 in an attempt to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion. Despite these efforts, the suspect vehicle continued westbound. A Douglas County Deputy, operating a patrol vehicle equipped with the Grappler device, joined the pursuit along with another deputy. After positioning behind the suspect, both maneuvered to the front of the pursuit. The suspect vehicle, which struck the concrete barrier multiple times, was ultimately stopped when our deputy successfully deployed the Grappler just west of South Quebec Street. The vehicle was brought to an immediate and controlled stop. The suspect was compliant and taken into custody by Aurora Police without incident. I-85 Kangaroo Update From ALEA A two-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, involving a kangaroo. The crash occurred in the southbound lane of Interstate 85 near the 46 mile marker in Macon County. Eventually both the southbound and northbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the 46 mile marker were closed while Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division along with the animal’s owner conducted a recovery of the kangaroo. The animal has now been recovered, and the roadway is back open. The kangaroo was not injured in the crash. Video from Austin Price

Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle hit a guardrail, lost a front wheel and continued driving, exiting I-4 and getting stuck at a construction site off Shell Road in DeBary. Deputies detained the driver, Eric Drewry (DOB 8/28/1978), who appeared to be under the influence. He resisted and kicked a deputy while being escorted into the back of a patrol vehicle. While being questioned by a trooper about the crash, Drewry responded "What crash?" While being transported to the hospital Drewry asked deputies multiple times to be released in exchange for $2,000. Instead, he was charged with resisting and battery on law enforcement by VSO, and DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, and refusal to submit to DUI testing (subsequent offense) by FHP.

After a short pursuit, stop sticks were deployed, which disabled the vehicle. The suspect stopped and surrendered without further incident. The suspect, who is not a resident of Douglas County, is facing charges of second degree burglary, first degree motor vehicle theft, felony eluding and driving under the influence. Deputies quickly responded and located the vehicle, which was parked at an apartment complex. As one deputy waited for backup, the suspect unexpectedly drove off. A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit. Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, deflating some of the vehicle's tires, but the suspect continued to flee. A Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) was used and was initially successful, but as deputies attempted to pin the vehicle, the suspect rammed a patrol car and kept going. A second TVI was performed and successfully disabled the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot but was caught after a short foot pursuit. One deputy was transported to the hospital after their patrol vehicle was struck. Thankfully, they are expected to make a full recovery. A search of the vehicle revealed narcotics and other suspicious items. Wrong-Way Driver Arrested on E-470 A deputy was headed into work on E-470 near Parker when they observed a vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Due to the median barrier, the deputy was unable to get behind the car but observed the driver swerving through oncoming traffic. Another deputy was quickly dispatched to the area and intercepted the wrong-way driver. During the initial traffic stop, the driver appeared to try to evade the deputy. The driver then conducted a U-turn to face the correct direction on E-470 and pulled onto the right shoulder. The driver was arrested on the following charges: •Reckless Endangerment (M2) •Driving Under the Influence (DUI) (M) •Driving on the Wrong Side of a Divided Highway (TIA) •Driving While License Under Restraint/Suspended (TIA) Excellent observation and quick coordination by our deputies helped prevent what could have resulted in serious injury or worse to other motorists.

When deputies, or anyone, are stopped on the side of the road, they’re in harm’s way. Slowing down and moving over isn’t just common sense for keeping people safe, it’s the law. “Our deputies are honored to stand alongside the Colorado State Patrol in remembering Trooper Cody Donahue,” said Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly. “Being part of this operation isn’t just about enforcing the law; it’s about protecting the men and women who serve on our roadways every day. When drivers move over and slow down, they help ensure that tragedies like the one that took Trooper Donahue’s life are never repeated. We owe it to him, his family, and every roadside worker to keep safety at the forefront.” The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Colorado State Patrol, will be conducting extra traffic enforcement in Douglas County on November 26, 2025. While verifying the VIN, deputies quickly disconnected the battery to prevent it from being driven away. They kept eyes on the vehicle, and before long, two males got inside. Deputies activated their lights and moved in. The driver attempted to start the vehicle with a key, but when it wouldn’t start, he fled on foot — leading to a brief pursuit.
