Part of the function of a scabbard is to protect the sword from the elements. Does your scabbard let in rain, debris etc., or is it sealed somehow?

No scabbard is perfectly sealed and very few perfectly protected swords from the rain, that's literally why some swords had seperate rain guards. The main function of a scabbard is to protect you from its sharp blade, and this ones serves that purpose perfectly.

This is not a very pleasant response Shad, is this the way you interact with your subscribers? Additionally, which element of my comment is not correct? I remarked that ‘part’ of the function of a scabbed is to protect a blade from the elements, and inquired about yours in that regard. My rationale regarding this is concern that a scabbard that pooled or held water, or readily allowed debris in could damage the blade over time. This was a polite inquiry, not an attack.

We differ here, I don’t think we should be antagonistic with each other as default. Furthermore, my query was an honest one and valid, and I found Shad’s response to be abrupt and dismissive. Now, he doesn’t owe me anything, however I am within my rights to point that out, and if this is the behaviour he fosters around himself then perhaps it’s not for me.

Yes absolutely and it's basically the same technique and can be done with really any type of sword which we show here

となると日本でこれだけ居合道みたいな技術体系が独立して存在するのは必要性があったてのが筋なのかな？ 日本の家屋は狭いから不意打ちしやすいし それなりにアドバンテージが西洋とくらべると大きかったのかな

@shadmbrooks Western houses were small in Medieval periods too. Only castles had wide areas, and even then some passages were narrower than a japanese house, wide enough for a single person, or maybe a person and a child turned sideways. The renaissance castles had much wider passages.

I was legitimately wondering when you’d see that video. lol The act of moving a standard scabbard into position to draw is something I didn’t think of when watching your backscabbard videos back in the day.

I prefer the version where a foot soldier holds the saya while I pull the sword out. Gives me some cannon fodder to toss towards the enemy as well.
