The United States Navy spent approximately $500 million over more than a decade (from roughly 2005 to 2021) on the research and development of the Electromagnetic Railgun (EMRG) program, which ultimately failed.

Good fit for land-based long-range kinetic fires if power supply challenges solved. (📹shrikant)
