So now, as the prime minister said, we have to look elsewhere for the kinds of alliances, agreements, and understandings we used to have with our closest neighbor. If our nearest neighbor doesn’t respect the rule of law for its own citizens, how is it going to respect international law? And it certainly doesn’t respect us as Canada. So we have no choice—we’re going to make decisions that benefit our region and our people first.
