Hunters rescue kidnapped herder, neutralise gang leader in Yobe By: Zagazola Makama A local hunters’ group has successfully rescued a kidnapped herder, Alhaji Babawuro, from captivity in Yobe State without payment of ransom, following a coordinated operation with security authorities. Sources told Zagazola Makama that the Babawuro, a resident of Kurbunga village under Shamka District of the Ngelzarma Emirate in Fune Local Government Area, was abducted at about 2:00 a.m. on Nov. 29, 2025, and taken to an unknown location. The sources said the incident was reported to the Damagum Police Division on Nov. 30, after which the kidnappers contacted the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of N50 million. “It was the fifth time the victim had been kidnapped, apparently due to his status as a wealthy herder,” the sources said. They explained that while negotiations were ongoing and the police were making arrangements to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor and the Emir of Ngelzarma held consultations with the Commissioner of Police. According to the sources, it was agreed that a hunters’ group with proven expertise in kidnap rescue operations should be engaged to assist the police. “The hunters subsequently took over negotiations, which were reduced to N7 million, while efforts were intensified to trace the kidnappers,” the sources said. NIGERIAN ARMY-LED JOINT SECURITY TEAM RESCUES 16 KIDNAP VICTIMS IN KOGI Troops of the Nigerian Army, working in close collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Navy, the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilantes and hunters, have successfully rescued all 16 persons abducted by suspected kidnappers during a coordinated search and rescue operation in Kogi State. The victims were kidnapped on Sunday 9 August 2026 when armed criminals attacked commuters along the Ojuwo–Ajengo–Memarebo and Ojiwo–Itobe roads in Ofu Local Government Area of the state. Acting swiftly on credible intelligence that the victims had been moved to the vicinity of Adumu Community in Dekina Local Government Area, troops of 21 Battalion and personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard immediately launched a joint search and rescue operation alongside the Nigeria Police, vigilantes and local hunters. During the operation, the joint security team established contact with the fleeing kidnappers and engaged them in a fierce firefight. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and coordinated assault of the security forces, the criminals abandoned all their captives and escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds. The operation culminated in the successful rescue of all 16 kidnapped victims, comprising six adult males, six adult females and four children. The rescued victims are undergoing documentation, medical assessment and reunification with their families. Regrettably, one local hunter who participated courageously in the operation paid the supreme sacrifice, May his soul rest in peace. Also, one police personnel sustained injuries during the encounter and is currently receiving medical treatment. Their bravery and commitment to protecting innocent citizens are deeply appreciated. With technical and intelligence support from the Safe City Volunteer Team, we traced the kidnappers to a farmland in Ndegwu Okuku, where security operatives engaged them in a gun battle. The kidnappers fled the scene and abandoned three victims they had held captive while awaiting ransom payments from their families. A total of five victims were kidnapped. One release yesterday paid ransom, one was killed by the kidnappers and three was rescued unhurt by us. The rescued victims revealed that the kidnappers are eight in number and are strangers speaking Fulani. One of the kidnappers said he was kidnapped last week Friday around Portharcourt road and they trekked to Ejemekwuru Information gathered shows that these kidnappers are scattered across the above mentioned communities and other parts of Owerri West. During one of the operations, we lost two soldiers, and some others were wounded. One of them has a broken arm due to a gunshot wound. I took over the operation, and we had assistance from the NSA Nuhu Ribadu, who sent in the National Counter-terrorism unit. We also had the Defence Headquarters special forces, the Nigerian Police, DSS, Nigerian Airforce team from Kanji, troops from Operation Savannah Shield from Kwara State that did a blocking from the Northern side of the state, local vigilantes and Amoteken. We lost some hunters, too. The operation was a complex one, and it lasted for over a month. We focused on identifying the terrorist kingpins that masterminded the abduction and then started cutting off their logistics and informants at the Old Oyo National Park and other parts of the country. We looked for other members of their team and members of their families in Adamawa, Kano, and different parts of the country and got them, and this put pressure on the terrorists. 🚨#ISPR 11 Terrorists Eliminated On 26-27 March 2025, eleven Khwarij were killed by the security forces in four separate encounters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, #Pakistan An intelligence based operation (IBO) was conducted by the Security Forces in area of Mir Ali, North Waziristan District. During the conduct of operation, our troops effectively engaged the khwarij location and resultantly, five khwarij were sent to hell. In a second operation conducted in same area, three more khwarij were successfully neutralized by our troops. In another encounter that took place in area of Miran Shah, North Waziristan District, our troops effectively neutralised two khwarij. In fourth operation conducted by the Security Forces in area of Daraban, Dera Ismail Khan District, one kharji was sent to hell. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the dead khwarij, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities. Sanitisation operations are being conducted to eliminate any other kharji found in the area as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.
