A 65+ year-old marathon legend might miss the StanChart Nairobi Marathon… not because she’s injured, but because she couldn’t afford to register in time. 💔 So I was saying goodbye to ShoSho Carol today and telling her how excited I was to run the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon with her, only to learn—to my absolute shock—that she missed registration because she simply didn’t have the registration fee at the time. By the time she was able to raise it, registration had already closed. 💔 While I would gladly sponsor her registration, entries are now closed. Carol has completed several StanChart Nairobi Marathons and is one of only a handful of active runners over the age of 65 who continue to inspire our running community. Many of you have run alongside her and know the passion and joy she brings to every race. I’m therefore making a humble appeal to Standard Chartered and the race director to please consider granting her an honorary entry this year. It would be such a shame for her remarkable streak to end because of circumstances like this. The only way for Ukraine to make it is to be talked about in pop culture. We don’t have billions in propaganda budget unlike russia, to spread our culture and stay relevant while we are fighting to survive. Most of you have heard about Tchaikovski and “the great russian culture”, though most of you can’t think of a single melody he composed. The most popular Christmas carol around the world was written by a Ukrainian — Mykola Leontovych. Most of you can hum it in your sleep, though almost none of you know his name of the real name of the Carol of the Bells — Shchedryk. Lindsey Stirling and Emilio had a perfect opportunity to change that. Yet they missed it. Please tag them in this post. Their platform is massive and can make a difference. How did that #Corrie episode today turn into Lisa hate? I'm so confused by what she's done this time. The reactions in both scenes are that of any other loving mother, It hurts them more than us when we fly the nest, I think more so if it's an only child. Lisa is a copper, she sees all the bad in the world, which will always be at the forefront of her mind. Shes well aware of what can happen in a big city like London. Her worries are valid, it doesn't make her any less happy for Betsy and her achievement but there was always going to be reservations. For Lisa she is a mother first and foremost who loves her kid more than life itself.

So MANY people of worship KNOW that God exists, but fails to stop & think that evil too, not only exists & persists on this planet, but thrives & that there are MANY who root for the other team & hold powerful positions across our planet as the powers that SHOULDN'T be. The everyday people in our lives simply cannot see what we SEE. They assume because they're a good person, everyone else in the world must be a good person too: "I can't imagine anyone doing that kind of evil stuff to children, so there's NO WAY that's happening!" The reality is, they can't imagine THEMSELVES doing that kind of evil stuff to children and they're projecting a notion that all of society is just like they are - good people - so there's no way people would do this kind of stuff. This is exactly the thought process that's allowed this evil to lurk about cloaked from humanity. Evil is here and these people are sick. You, The People, are the cure. You Awake, is their GREATEST Fear!

It wasn't just "good for its time" - it was legitimately excellent in terms of design and pushed technical boundaries. However, what stands out the most is who created it. Carol Shaw, a solo female creator delivering a million-selling classic in a male-dominated space. To give you a better context: In 1982 the gaming industry extremely male dominated, only 3% of the developers were women - and only a fraction of that in leading roles. Shaw started at Atari in 1978 (one of the first ever women in such a role) and moved to Activision. River Raid is her most famous work, and she's widely recognized as one of the earliest professional female video game designers/programmers. River Raid became hugely successful - lucrative enough for her to retire early - and helped normalize women in game development. It was a quiet but significant milestone in an era when the field was just forming and considered to be "just for guys". Today's gaming industry is still male dominated but the ratio is not 3% women to 97% men anymore, but around 25% women to 75% men. Carol Shaw didn't just push technical but also social boundaries, normalizing women in the gaming industry.
