real-time correction while speaking beats a lesson app because it fixes the habit in the moment, not three exercises later

People use Duolingo because of the gamification though

I’ve had tutors like this before, that wouldn’t let me finish a single thought, without interrupting me, it’s the worst kind of tutoring

Duolingo it's a game, it's a different business

Holy cow . Duolingo sucks . It's more like a child's game than a Learning app. Real time grammar fix is definitely more helpful than sloppy Duolingo

Better than Duolingo, but that's a low bar. This is overcorrecting. It discourages the student and he can't remember 20 fixes an hour. You don't need to correct somebody on this stuff, you can just repeat what they said back to them conversationally but with better grammar, and they'll correct their grammar in time...

Is Duolingo really cooked?

Learning languages has never been about transactional interactions, there is no impact on Duolingo from all these

It’ll only make Duolingo better.

Nah... The success of Duolingo because it gamifies language learning. ChatGPT acts as a teacher while Duolingo acts like a game. An average person is more attracted towards gamificstion learning than traditional learning. And over here, the person is only speaking, not wording.

Maybe I am on Duolingo just because I want to learn a new language and I enjoy the process of learning a new language?

Yes, an interrupting grammar coach is exactly what the Duolingo users really wanted.

Holy cow, damn freaking, scammers with fake single women coming to talk to you on the phone or fake single men talking to Women... This is just so seemless in conversation!

Nah it still needs work because it's constantly transcribing what you are saying to feed into gpt. So if you have an accent or your pronounciation is wrong it won't catch that

Dude i like the way he talks without correct grammar. It's way more interesting. Fuck all this shit about good grammar. It's b.s. I like people speaking their own way

Well, not only Duolingo but also languages learning websites Preply for example they’re cooked too , LLMs are killing lots of jobs which makes knowledges are really cheap now

No position in $duol, but it's one of ChatGPTS largest enterprise clients. By using Duolingo you're already using gpt. All i see here is a passthrough product soon to be added to duolingos stack.

I mean, people who use Duolingo are already cooked—they actually believe they’re learning something

This is impressive, but Duolingo has a huge opening here for people who don't like being talked to like a kindergarten teacher

I’ve tried to do this for Spanish. It doesn’t really work. In my experience it will quickly forget that it’s helping you with grammar. So you don’t actually know if you’re speaking well or not.

I have never heated anyone who actually successfully learned a language using Duolingo.

Hard disagree, Duolingo isn’t just a language learning app. It has structure with a ui and ux to support various modalities for better retention. They have a data moat for learning outcomes when paired with particular examples. Same reason llms are under utilized by gen public
