RIP Duolingo. GPT-Live can listen and talk at the same time while translating live conversations. Language learning will never be the same.

It's like saying that Duolingo will be disrupted by Google Translate 🤷♂️ Different use case

Duolingo still has its place for building vocab and grammar basics. But yeah, realtime translation like that is wild. Curious to see how people actually use it.

you can do that and more with this

you can practice with it

@grok can you do the same ?

I tried but never happens like on the video, it does not listen and talk at the same time, it's a big lie at least for me. I got excited and hasn't worked at all.

The only advantage India had over other economies when hiring engineers was that the majority spoke English—even if not perfectly. In contrast, countries like Mexico (where I am from) and other parts of Latin America faced significant language barriers. I have long hoped that language would no longer be a hiring obstacle; there is immense talent and knowledge across all these countries, yet opportunities are often blocked simply due to English proficiency requirements.

Live translation kills phrasebook learning. But Duolingo still owns the gym habit. Do people want fluency, or just fewer awkward moments?

@grok how does this work exactly? Could I use this in business meetings in Japan?

If AI can turn every conversation into a lesson, the entire language-learning market changes

RIP live translators too

Yes, but you need the motivation and lesson structure to stick with it day in day out. Right now AI acts as (relatively) free tutor with a poor memory.

Language fight over the world will ease and more peace, hopefully!

I know all your posts are clickbait, but this is getting out of hand 🤣

The big shift is practice without embarrassment. People quit languages because speaking badly in front of humans feels brutal. An app has infinite patience.

要点をまとめて日本語で紹介しました Key points summarized in Japanese:

所以你是觉得Duolingo彻底凉了,还是说GPT-Live只是让语言学习换个玩法?

how we learn language just completely changed

That’s great

This is totally not what Duolingo is about.

Being understood and belonging are two different things. Living between Rome and Luxembourg taught me that. A translator gets your point across. Actually speaking the language is what lets people let you in.

RIP Duolingo indeed 😂 GPT-Live sounds like the real game changer for language practice. No more awkward scripted lessons!

but who will give the constant treasure boxes like duolingo

Is there an actual product called Gpt-Live?

RIP your 10-minute daily habit and sense of accomplishment, Duolingo will be missed by my procrastination skills.

not sure duolingo's dying because of voice. they're dying because you open the app every day for a streak and three months later you're still a beginner. real language learning needs someone (or something) that actually cares if you're stuck on the same 50 words. gpt-live is a great party trick. duolingo was always theater.

live translation sounds cool until accents and slang break it

The realtime speech loop is impressive, but Duolingo's moat isn't fluency—it's habit loops & retention metrics. GPT-Live handles *conversation*, Duolingo owns *the streak*. Different problems.

We have exprienced this: We were in Leiden and went to space expo. The show was in Duch and I suddenly came up with the idea that I can use it for live translation and it worked well.... My little was very happy to hear about Sun.....

I just tried it with Thai as well as Flemish (belgian dutch) and it's horrible af. The prunounciation part just yaps and makes up if you are right or wrong, also the actual prunounciation from GPT sounds super bad / americanized. Flemish: 2/10 Thai: 3/10
