When the Government announced its social media ban for under-16s, it published an indicative list of platforms that included Facebook, Instagram and X. BlueSky was nowhere to be seen. The Government has since rowed back, insisting that it was only an indicative list. We think it is more than a coincidence that these perceived centre-right platforms were included from the outset, while the left-leaning platform was omitted. In Australia, where this Government borrowed the idea for the ban, BlueSky was not on the list. In typical fashion, however, it has since volunteered to be included. Once Ofcom has finalised the regulations, we will have a clearer idea of what qualifies a platform for the ban. In the latest episode of the FSU Podcast, Lord Young argues that the initial decision not to include BlueSky points to something quite alarming: that this is a selective ban. The problem with a selective ban is whether Ofcom can genuinely be trusted to make politically impartial decisions that do not benefit the Government of the day. That concern is particularly pertinent at the moment, given that the Government is pushing through legislation to give 16-year-olds the vote. I voted NO on the stop-gap CR to fund the government that would be dead on arrival in the Senate and White House. This is a government that’s weaponized against its political enemies. A government that puts Ukraine’s border above our own. And a government that isn’t working for OUR people. I’m a successful business owner and I’ve always kept my business running. But in the House, we went home for all of August and most of September. At Lucknow University, while some people are allowed to Namaz in the open without any problem, these students are being shoved and stopped just for saying their Hanuman Chalisa. If the constitution says everyone is equal, then why are the rules changing so fast here? Why is one group getting a free pass while the other is treated like this by the authorities? We have asked for a comprehensive discussion on the Waqf Amendment Act, but our views are not being considered. We have requested a proper time allocation for the resolution on the President's rule in Manipur, but our advice is being ignored. We have also asked for an important discussion under Rule 193 regarding voter EPIC cards and the decision to link them with Aadhaar. “To beat the machine we must build a machine.” ••••••••••••••••••• Hi Guys Just in Canberra this morning about to head off to Wagga where we have close to 100 coming to our branch meeting tonight. Next week, estimates will take place in Canberra. I won’t be there for the first time in six years, but to be honest I think it’s much more productive to be out in the community building an active grassroots political party that will hopefully one day take on the majors. If estimates taught me anything it’s that it’s nothing but a stonewalling process. Instead of transparency we get lies and distractions from the very people that should be accountable and transparent to the people. To change this we need to build a machine that can beat the machine. That’s why I’m on the road, spreading the message about the importance of building an active grassroots political party.
