"If we're focused on our processes, we're gonna look up in a couple weeks and say, 'Damn, man, I like where we are.'" Focus on the systems and habits that lead to excellence, not just the end result. Penn State head football coach Matt Campbell believes in mastering the basics, not becoming a jack of all trades. " You've been there. Your team's not good enough yet. So you try to out scheme everybody. And really what happens is you become the jack of all trades, master of nothing. And we're always trying to catch up 'cause we're just not good enough. So we're gonna out scheme you. Which honestly, it sets your program back. And so what we did is really simple. We're gonna be really good at quarters. We're gonna play four down. We're gonna play base defense. We're gonna play quarters. We're gonna learn how to tackle. We're gonna learn how to run into the football. First drill we do every single day on defense is pursuit drill. Now we're 10th in the country in total team defense. You know what we do really well? We run with the football. You know what we did on offense? We took two run plays. We took three pass plays. But we got really good at it. What do I want to present them with because how am I going to anticipate how they're going to react based on the looks they've gotten in the past, the looks we've given them and then we can go to work." - "You definitely have to account for 7 man protection. Incredible last few minutes of the Rick Rubin / Adam Neumann interview. I got chills listening to this. --- Adam: We'll connected to this week's portion. We all have something that we're slaves to. We all have an addiction to anger, to ego, to power, whatever it is, idol worship that we have. We all have an Egypt. We all need to leave that Egypt, come out of it. When we come out of that Egypt, we all face a Red Sea. When we see that Red Sea, we all need to have the courage to walk into it so far that we drown. Only when we're willing to drown will the Red Sea be split and we'll go to our next level. We then go to our next level. We see the Red Sea split. Suddenly we're like, oh, everything is okay. And we forget. The moment we forget, we step into the desert. We all have to walk through our version of desert. That desert is between us, us, and God. No one else. The only decision we get to have is how long we're going to journey through that desert. Are we going to journey for 14 days like the children of Israel were supposed to? Or are we going to journey for 40 years because we're not learning our lesson? Our choice is not, are we going to get into the desert or not? It's how long will we be in. And once we go out of that desert, we all have our version of the promised land. And if we have the courage to look inside, see our own correction, our own limitation, look at it clearly now and say, I see you, and I'm going to get over it. I'm going to learn. I'm going to grow. I'm going to understand that life is not about falling down. It's about how I'm going to get up. I'm going to fall 1,000 times so I can get up 1,001 times. And in that last time when I get up and I'm actually ready to go to my next level, I'm going to wish for you, for me, and for everybody who are listening — please, may we have the courage to go to our next level because we know that the promised land is waiting right after it. Wouldn't it cause us to have to reexamine philosophy, religion, personal worldviews? "Potential reframing of human exceptionalism that we base our value systems on, is that we're at the top of the food chain. That there is human exceptionalism. That we, as humans, are the be-all and end-all of this world. And then, all of a sudden, we find out, not true. To them, we could be like a fungus. "People have posed questions like, 'Well, if they're here, why haven't they talked to us? Why haven't they identified themselves to us?' It may be that we're so minuscule and irrelevant, why would they bother. "And the long-term mental health aspects when you don't know the motives or the intent of these entities could create chronic worry, conspiracy thinking, paranoia, feelings of unbelievable inadequacy. Some may celebrate with renewed optimism, like 'Wow, look what we found! These people, if they can do all this, maybe they can cure all the diseases. They can come up with solutions to problems. This is great!' "How would governments react (laughs)? Russia, China, United States would all be scrambling to establish some kind of process for monitoring potential collaboration. Our intelligence communities would go crazy. Our Department of Defense, our science agencies would have to start redoing everything, revisiting risk assessment. "Of course, we would be trying to establish exchange programs. Maybe they're not even interested? Like I say, we could be like gum on their shoe. Who knows? How do you feel about that? We're not gonna drain the Great Salt Lake. That's ridiculous. We are gonna create incremental jobs. This is not gonna destroy air quality because we don't have the option to do that. That's controlled both state and federally, and we don't want to do that. That's not what we wanna do. I want this to be the example of what we can do all across the country. This is not going to be my only project. But in order to do that, we have to prove it, and we're not building 40,000 acres of data centers. That's the size of the land parcel. So saying it’s twice the size of Manhattan is ridiculous. We're building very slowly and incrementally, and everybody around us nationally and internationally can see what we're doing. It'll be totally transparent, and we want it to be the shining example of how you do this.
