This is great for younger players but it needs to be put into the context of “feel vs real.” He is using no lower body in this drill and this is not a swing he will use in a game, it is an exaggeration drill used to ingrain “feel.” Once younger players understand this they accept it better.

@HittersUniv I luv the mention of swinging down & “over the baseball”. Matt Olsen was the first I heard mention that when he faced deGrom -“tried to miss over it”. My son used that approach on high spin-rate pitchers & batted .376 at Towson in 2023. Phils scouts were too dumb not to offer

@HittersUniv Most if this is for “him” individually. Young players rarely can translate the “hit down” method. They end up dead pull & no low body involvement. It works for him because he already has superior lower body & these drills help with bad habits high level players try to eliminate

How the best players really train! Pete Alonso Off Season Cage Work @ Diesel Fitness in Tampa. The best players have specific drills and routines they do when they step in the cage. They don’t just hop in and go right off of live batting practice or machine. They do drills that they know will groom there swing to have success in the game against the highest levels of pitching. I’ve never seen a professional player without some sort of a routine in baseball.

Keeping Your Head & Eyes Still 👀 ✅ if you can keep your head & eyes still to read the pitch while maintaining a proper position to hit your chances of success goes way up. All of the best hitters in the world talk about keeping their head and eyes still. They are not trying to move them all over the place and collision hit to try and hit 95+ with 3 pitches & a scouting report. Of course your head and eyes will slightly move if you watch it on video.
