We were so busy talking about Abacha loot that we didn’t realise the modern political class has turned looting into a professional sport. 80 S-Class Benzes from ONE person? Abacha was a learner compared to these ones. The greed is generational. 🤦🏾‍♂️🇳🇬

Do you know what $69b is??? Even the US economy will feel it. The western countries don’t like us; as long as it favours them, they don’t care what happens to Nigeria. Chai

By the way the $69 billion loot was allegedly linked to the late General Owoye Azazi, who served as NSA under Goodluck Jonathan. The money reportedly came from shady oil deals involving some officials of the NNPC and CBN during GEJ’s administration. General Azazi died in a helicopter crash in 2012 alongside Kaduna State Governor Patrick Yakowa. Okoi Obono-Obla was appointed as the Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP). Okoi Obono-Obla was in the process of recovering the looted funds when he was removed from the panel by the then AGF Malami under Buhari administration. Over 400 criminal and graft cases retrieved from the SPIP by the office of the AGF and Minister of Justice were also allegedly abandoned.

"A former Governor & a sitting senator as at that time... but he *had* been President of the Nigerian Senate": only one man fits that description: David Mark. He was the only Fmr governor who remained a senator after he ceased to be SP (Saraki mandate ended with his presidency).

This clip going round is from an old interview Okoi Obono-Obla did on the MIC On Podcast with Seun Okinbaloye. He was the guy Buhari appointed to head the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for Recovery of Public Property back then. In the 5-minute part that's blowing up, he talks about some crazy stuff his team actually recovered during that time. One example he gave was seizing over 80 brand new armored S-Class Mercedes Benz cars from one person's spot in Jabi, Abuja, plus houses, farms, and other things. They even got a court order to take custody while investigating if customs duties or taxes were ever paid (spoiler: they weren't). The frustrating part he keeps stressing is that a lot of what they recovered ended up getting handed back to the same people they took it from. He says the system basically frustrated real action. He also mentioned bigger leads that went nowhere. Things like a tip about $69 billion sitting in a Texas bank account, supposedly from proceeds of stolen crude oil sales. Part of it (around $9 billion) was even linked to the late General Patrick Azazi (former NSA). Another one was a sitting senator with over £200 million in offshore properties tied to Panama Papers stuff. His main point is that if even a fraction of these kinds of funds got properly recovered and used, Nigeria could fix schools, build roads, hospitals, everything. But nothing serious happened with most of these cases. The clip feels so wild that people are reacting like "this one na film trick" because the scale of it is hard to wrap your head around. It's old (from around mid-2024), but it's resurfacing now and hitting hard again in 2026. Classic Naija corruption frustration. 🇳🇬

Terrifying numbers but no surprises at all. It could be $69m not billions. However, it is another proof to the fact that Buhari was a useless president. Beyond being clueless, hardened, insensitive, illiterate and useless, he wasn't aware of anything going on in his govt. Useless

If Nigeria’s leaders truly want the country to work, they should sit at a round table and discuss restructuring. But it seems they prefer the turn by turn approach. If Tinubu fails to restructure it, it will be very difficult to find any future president who will.

Tinubu has not stolen what Buhari and his Muslim friends stole in 8 years. Before they APC came into power, NNPC was remitting $3 billion monthly to FAAC. All that money is diverted NNPC remittances. That's why during the Buhari government you'll find northerners setting up multi billion businesses, they bought Etisalat, A. A. Rano became a household name, mega rice mills were being commissioned, etc. All that tempo has stopped now, wait until they get back power. Our best resolve is separation in Nigeria.
