Earlier this year, TU Dublin / OT Baile Átha Cliath teamed up with Geological Survey IE to drill a 1.5km deep borehole. What they found is a reliable and #renewable heat source that could be utilised by the whole college community. After the initial investment the heat is free 🏫

@WeAreTUDublin @GeolSurvIE Makes you wonder, if we are heating something, what's being cooled ? And what are the long term effects of that ? We do t have a clue about the impact that our action have on the planet and siphoning off heat from 1.5k below the surface could be disastrous at scale.

Today changing a pump that was 50 metres down in a borehole that is 60m deep We drilled the borehole in 2012. The water level in the summer of 2012 was 41.1m down from ground level. Today in the drought, it is sitting at 40.66m down, higher water level than in 2012 I have found similar results in other Deep boreholes that we look after in East Anglia Deep Groundwater levels seem to be unaffected by the hot weather in this area
