Imagine if language models could tap into the app ecosystem of your iPhone. Would the need for plugins and assistants become obsolete if we simply allowed a model to orchestrate our existing (and many years robust) user interfaces? This demonstrates the extent to which GPT-4V excels as a Generalist Mobile AI Agent – without any fine-tuning or grounding, and merely by integrating with a text model that has JSON mode enabled. At Postman, we have adopted an AI-native mindset to product development. What does this mean in practice? Just like you can generate text with AI, Postman's Agent Mode can generate a UI as well. Case in point: we have added the ability to review, generate, and change diffs for important changes right inside agent mode's chat interaction. If the user trusts agent mode, they can continue in auto-mode, but for critical changes, they can have the agent mode inform the user, review what is changing, and then give the go ahead to approve. See this in action below in the video! While there is a lot of focus on AI generated code today, I believe a large chunk of pre-built UI work will just go away and micro-interactions and workflow steps will be created on the fly through a combination of AI + APIs. How to operate in this new world? Build your API first. Hook it up to AI. If your users really want the UI every time, invest in the GUI.

For most of the last two decades, our ability to make things on mobile devices has been pretty limited. We got good at writing emails, taking photos and videos, and doing some light editing. But the vast majority of our time was still spent consuming. One under-discussed shift is how much AI has unlocked creation on mobile. People are literally coding iOS apps on their iPhones now. The activation energy has dropped dramatically. This is true for Notion as well. Writing a doc or creating and managing a database used to be fairly involved, not to mention the paper cuts that we are fixing fast. The new agent on mobile has made creation 10x faster and better. And I should add, 100x more fun! In this demo, I use our iOS app exclusively by interacting with the agent. I never type into a doc or a database. I just ask the agent to make things, add things, and update things, and it goes and does it. Take a look, and let me know what you think!

This weekend, I explored a mobile game idea with my kids (they suggested a mobile pokemon-like game) so I had them coming up with ideas for the creatures and I try to visualise them with ChatGPT Images 2.0 and vibe coded a small prototype on Cursor to play around with. The art direction of the creatures are in vinyl toy matte style so it has this toy-like aesthetic quality that I quite like! For a mobile app/game, I went with Expo + React Native to create this mobile app so that I have one code-base for both Android and iOS. So far I'm pretty impressed with Expo's live mobile app preview feature! Being able to easily preview the mobile app on my phone in seconds is a big plus.
