In a horrific incident on National Highway 48 near Kallambella in Sira taluk, Tumakuru district, a youth detonated a country-made bomb inside a car, killing himself. The woman he had allegedly kidnapped and the car driver escaped with their lives. In a major development, police discovered another live bomb at the scene during inspection. The deceased has been identified as Nagendra (30), a native of Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. The survivor, Ramya, also hails from Ankola and works as a lab technician at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Bengaluru. Nagendra was employed as a delivery boy. The two had been in a romantic relationship for the past seven to eight years. However, differences arose over marriage, and Ramya had reportedly refused to marry him. Enraged by her rejection, Nagendra booked a rented car and went to Ramya's paying guest accommodation in Bengaluru, where he forcibly kidnapped her. He had allegedly prepared a country-made bomb beforehand. Immediately after Ramya went missing, her friend filed a complaint at Siddapura police station in Bengaluru. While traveling on the Shira highway, a heated argument broke out between the two inside the car. Nagendra allegedly struck Ramya on the head with a weapon. In a swift move, Ramya jumped out of the moving vehicle to save herself. The driver stopped to help her, and she was shifted to safety. Seizing the moment, Nagendra locked all the doors from inside and detonated the country-made bomb he had brought. The explosion completely charred the car, and Nagendra was burned alive inside. Speaking to media, the car driver, Pravin, said: "I received a booking on Uber under the name Nagendra. Around 11 AM, both of them boarded the car in Jayanagar. There was no trouble until Kallambella. Meanwhile, I received a call from Ankola informing me that it was a kidnapping case. Later, an argument broke out between them. He stabbed her with a knife. I immediately stopped the car on the roadside. My first priority was to rescue the woman, so I helped her onto a passing bike. At that point, she told me there was a bomb in the car." Pravin further added: "When I approached the car, the youth was holding a bomb in his hand. I snatched it and threw it away. Then he tried to ignite another bomb, and I ran away. Moments later, the car exploded. I had purchased this car by pawning my wife's jewelry." Police have recovered the live bomb from the spot. A team from Bengaluru is arriving to assist in the investigation. Tumakuru SP Venkat visited the site and conducted an inspection. A joint investigation by Siddapura and Kallambella police is underway. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
