Eating This Fish Caused Amputations 😱

The infections is caused by bacteria such as Streptococcus iniae or Vibrio vulnificus. Vibrio vulnificus, in particular, is a dangerous bacterium commonly found in warm, brackish waters and can contaminate fish like tilapia. If ingested or introduced into the body through cuts or wounds, it can cause severe foodborne illness or a life-threatening condition known as necrotizing fasciitis ("flesh-eating disease"). This condition can progress rapidly, leading to tissue destruction, sepsis, and, in severe cases, the need for amputations to prevent the infection from spreading. Individuals with compromised immune systems, liver disease, or diabetes are especially at risk. Properly cooking tilapia eliminates these risks, making it crucial to avoid consuming it raw or undercooked.

This rising health concern is alarming

It is Vibrio vulnificus infection. This bacteria can enter the body through open wounds or by consuming contaminated fish or seafood.
