🚨 Ebro says today’s music feels “empty” because the industry has stopped creating moments. The Rap Life Review panel argues great music still exists, but without storytelling, world-building and strong marketing, albums disappear too quickly instead of becoming cultural moments. Anyone who is not a hater knows that iceman episode 4 was a moment. I’ll never forget where I was & who I was with.. at the end of the episode revealing the 3 albums was crazy and then the fireworks to top it off. No bigger moment will be had in 2026

Why yall talking as if you don’t know what happened!? It’s called fafo. Prominent hip-hop industry figures banded together to take out its biggest superstar, and in retaliation, he iced out the industry he had been feeding for 15 yrs, which has exposed its emptiness & fraudulence

It’s only a handful of real SUPERSTAR rappers that can create moments like a Drake the real problem is the next thing in hip hop, we’re still not sure whose the next guy to dominate this hip hop genre Drake is almost 40 Kendrick is almost 40 where is the next star?

Didn’t they say they wanted hip hop to be more underground? What’s the problem now with it being quiet 🤔🙃?

This is when the self reflection needs to happen. Ebro, Joe Budden, Charlamagne, etc all contributed to this moment that he’s feeling. How about some accountability?

Iceman has created so many moments, GIFs and memes. OGs, mid-tier and forgotten rappers crashing out. Drizzy set the template for releasing an iconic album. Ebro and others tried to chase him out of town, now they see he was the ecosystem.

It’s bigger than storytelling or marketing. Those matter, but urban music & music in general is dealing with the same thing wrestling did. Everything felt bigger in the 2000s, 90s, and 80s. But as time went on the culture became more fragmented, attention spans got shorter, and fewer moments felt massive. That’s what’s happening in hip-hop. That’s why it’s harder for new artists to become true superstars, while artists like Drake, Kendrick & Beyoncé can still turn albums into national/global events because they became juggernauts in a different era and kept their flame going. We have too much entertainment at our fingertips with technology now for music & artists to hold the same weight like they did in the past…

Maybe because as you grow older the majority of rap feels like it’s made for the youth. Ebro is a 50 yr old man… whole lotta music out there that isn’t rap. Music is in a great place. Maybe rap just doesn’t satisfy your old ass ears

Moments are the PROBLEM. Artists are focused on making viral moments without the catalogue of great music to fall back on. The 90s and 2000s artists who made classics understood moments are MOMENTARY. They were focused on making music that would last

Content feels empty when there's too much of it out there. It's why even big artists can't sell product - there's too much music, and you can stream every song ever recorded for free. When music is free and abundant, it has no real value and it's forgettable.

Too many niggas with mics , OG rappers have turned into podcasters. Before they would have introduced a protege to stamp the next generation of hip hop leaders, instead they all Wendy Williams.

I grew up on rap...let it die. Its over. It been watered down beyond repair. Something new will reveal itself one day, but let rap die. It more than likely will the second Drake hangs it up anyhow.
