🚨 Ebro says the Drake/Kendrick beef actually HELPED BOTH artists arguing Drake’s albums before the battle were “quieter than ICEMAN” and that the beef gave him the storyline this era needed “Before the battle, his albums were quieter than ICEMAN. Never forget that.” Ebro says the battle gave Drake “a story, a purpose, a reason” and an “him against the world” narrative, while Kendrick came out of it with “Not Like Us” and the Super Bowl moment. 🚨 Ebro says hip-hop has become too obsessed with sales Ebro pushed back on using commercial success to measure greatness, saying “Wrong chart, champ.” He argued “McDonald’s sells a lot of hamburgers… that doesn’t mean it’s the best hamburger,” adding that moments like Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt celebration and Kendrick Lamar’s Pop Out prove culture and impact matter more than numbers. 🚨 Ebro says ICEMAN contains some of Drake’s best rapping in a LONG time… comparing parts of it to Side A of Scorpion but argues the album is too long and says Drake could’ve made it shorter because some themes and shots became repetitive the panel also says people who claim they don’t like “new Drake” probably never liked Drake in the first place… arguing Drake’s whole brand has always been making different styles of music for different audiences Ebro also reveals he only truly loved around 9–11 songs across ICEMAN, Maid of Honor & Habibti… and only around 5–6 songs specifically on ICEMAN Via Rap Life Review with Ebro, Nadeska, Eddie, and Nick

🚨 Rosenberg says Jay-Z combines the best qualities of Drake, Kendrick Lamar & J. Cole Rosenberg argues Drake has more hits, Kendrick has more deeply meaningful records, and Cole excels in his own way but says Jay-Z is the complete package. He says Hov blends hit-making, lyricism, charisma and cultural impact in a way none of the current “Big 3” can match. Via The Ebro, Laura, Rosenberg Show

🚨 Ebro says if you had something negative to say about Drake’s FOMO, you were probably “never really a Drake fan like that” The rest of Rap Life Review were largely on the same page, saying the battle skewed how people view Drake, Kendrick and Cole while FOMO felt like Drake finally getting back to having fun with music instead of constantly relitigating beef, “ops” and haters. “My favorite version of Drake is that version of Drake.” Ebro says Drake looks like he’s recalibrating after a turbulent few years and calls him “one of the greats in hip-hop.” Via Rap Life Review

The Rap Life Review panel argues great music still exists, but without storytelling, world-building and strong marketing, albums disappear too quickly instead of becoming cultural moments. 🚨 Akademiks and Charlamagne clash over Jay-Z, Drake, legacy and hip-hop media in their upcoming sit down Charlamagne tells Ak he’ll never be respected by Jay-Z’s generation unless he learns to appreciate every era of hip-hop, while Ak says he doesn’t care because his audience grew up on Drake, Kendrick and today’s generation. The two also debate Jay-Z vs. Drake, whether older voices should define the culture, and what it really takes to become the biggest voice in hip-hop media.

🚨 Ebro & Rob Markman debate whether Drake fans will clown Jay-Z’s first-week numbers when Hov drops his next album. After the Drake/Jay back-and-forth is brought up, Ebro says people WILL clown whatever Jay’s number is, while Rob argues Hov is at a stage where “who cares?” Rob points to Reasonable Doubt an album whose impact and legacy far outweigh its initial commercial performance while questioning why hip-hop fans let numbers dictate how they view the music. This is precisely what Jay-Z was talking about during his NY Times interview. Rakim is one of Jay’s biggest influences and the first rapper to truly revolutionize the art of rapping. His impact and contributions to rap music are immeasurable. Jay was in full fan mode showing his appreciation for Biggie & Rakim’s flow. But the focus of the interview has been on his comments about maturing in hip-hop. Just to create unnecessary controversy.

🚨 Akademiks says Jay-Z is actively repairing his public image and claims a new album is on the way Akademiks says he believes Jay-Z has been making smart moves to repair his image while celebrating Reasonable Doubt’s 30th anniversary. He also says criticism of Jay-Z and Roc Nation isn’t about hating Jay’s music, arguing people are mixing legitimate criticism with personal attacks.
