My last hours with Fable: I was building this movement parkour sim before it went down... Impressed by its autonomy: built its own self-verifying harness with its own rubric for how a movement should feel. When a new movement was added it could tell on its own what felt right or wrong until it felt 100% right without me in the loop (and it was very good at it) Fable was more than just another model iteration imo. For the short (but intense) time it was available, it felt like playing with clay: ideas became code with almost no friction and the line between both became blurry. More than ever: open source MUST win. I don't want a world where intelligence is centralized and you're stuck with a hand saw while others have a chainsaw.

In Combat, you controlled a tank, biplane, or jet and battled against another player. The gameplay was simple to grasp, yet the skill ceiling was surprisingly high. You had to carefully judge enemy movement, shot trajectories, and your own positioning to avoid getting hit. For a game that’s soon approaching 50 years old, it was remarkably advanced for its time. It remains one of the most iconic games of early gaming history. Younger generations will probably never come across it - and if they did, they’d likely laugh at its primitive graphics. But for those of us who grew up with it, Combat was one of the best two-player experiences of its era.

This is rare scientific footage recorded in 2012 in the waters of the Azores (Portugal). An adult bottlenose dolphin with a severe spinal deformity (scoliosis) — its body curved into an S-shape — was unable to swim as fast as other dolphins. It was left behind by its own pod because it could not keep up. 🐬💓 Instead, the dolphin was accepted by a group of sperm whales. The slower-moving whales frequently rubbed against its body, swam closely beside it, and protected the dolphin as if it were a member of their own group. This was the first time humans had documented non-hostile (friendly) behavior between sperm whales and another species. It shows that sperm whales possess remarkable intelligence and a strong capacity for compassion, willing to “adopt” a vulnerable individual even from a different species.

She gently picked up the octopus, carried it to deeper water, and released it back into the sea to save its life. Once the octopus was back in its familiar environment, instead of swimming away immediately, it turned back toward the girl’s feet. It slowly extended one of its tentacles, gently touching her leg or almost “hugging” her in a slow, deliberate motion as if saying thank you for saving it. Only after that did it swim off into the ocean. 💓
