A guy in Calgary told me we’re not even allowed to discuss Alberta independence. Think about that. Apparently in Canada, we’re only allowed to talk about approved political topics. Then he said Alberta leaving Canada isn’t legal because one judge said the petition can’t be counted. So I asked him: If that decision was successfully appealed, would that change your mind? He said no. And that’s the whole point. For a lot of people, “it’s not legal” is not actually a legal argument. It’s just a talking point. The second the legal process doesn’t support them anymore, they still oppose it anyway. Quebec had two referendums. The Supreme Court already dealt with the issue of secession. But somehow when Alberta wants to even talk about it, people act like the conversation itself is forbidden. All the more reason for Alberta to quickly get off this dystopian train.

A few days ago Kathy Flett (insert Alberta flag here) and I had a woman walk up to us in the park and tell us she disagreed with Alberta independence. To be clear, I was already obviously recording our conversation with a LARGE camera. She said she didn’t want to be recorded, but then continued engaging in the conversation while the camera was still there. My position is simple: if you keep talking to someone who is clearly recording in a public place, that is consent enough for me. And in public, consent to record is not required anyway. It’s just a polite thing to ask or respect when possible. That said, I still blurred her identifiable features and even adjusted her voice because I’m not trying to embarrass anyone. I’m trying to have real conversations with Albertans. She talked about immigrating to Canada from Ireland as a child, how her family chose Canada because of Canadian values, and how she worries Alberta is moving away from things like a social safety net, education, professions, and liberal democracy. I don’t agree with her conclusion, but I do think the conversation revealed something important. A lot of people who oppose Alberta independence are angry at the Alberta government. Fair enough. So am I on many issues. But my answer is not to cling harder to a broken Canadian system. My answer is to ask whether the system itself is the problem. If both Ottawa and Edmonton keep failing people, then the answer isn’t more of the same. Alberta Independence is about the power to build something better.

In Sylvan Lake I spoke with an Iraqi Christian family who came to Canada in 2006 about what immigrants owe the country that welcomed them. Their answer was blunt: come here for a better life, obey Canadian law, work hard, care for your family and leave the conflicts of the old country behind. They told me newcomers should not come to Canada and then try to force the same politics, divisions or customs on everyone else. Canada gave their children safety and a future, and they believe immigrants have a duty to protect that. Then I told them I support Alberta independence. Their response surprised me: they support it too, and they have lawn signs in support of independence up! Support for Alberta independence is not limited to people whose families have lived here for generations. Immigrants who came here legally, worked hard and integrated can also see that Alberta is losing control over its culture, immigration and future. This is a powerful conversation. Listen to the end. With what many people have described as a joke in the name of an election in Ekiti State, I hope Nigerians are truly preparing for the 2027 elections. From what we are seeing, it appears that not only are many Nigerians unprepared, but our electoral system is also not inspiring the level of confidence that citizens expect. If we want credible elections in 2027, we must start paying attention now. We cannot wait until election day before demanding transparency, accountability, and integrity from all stakeholders. Democracy only works when the people are vigilant and when electoral institutions earn the trust of the citizens they serve. The time to prepare for 2027 is now.

The audacity of this man to state that Alberta separation will never happen is just ludicrous! Who in the hell is he to state the outcome of a democratic process until it plays out?! He states he’s an Albertan yet refuses to address a single concern Albertans have. This man will not save you Alberta. He’s just another slimy eastern politician who will pander to the west for votes to give him the power he craves and will continue allowing the east to control Canada’s future. THIS INCIDENT SHOULD CONCERN EVERY ALBERTAN, WHETHER YOU SUPPORT THE PETITION OR NOT A canvasser was in public, lawfully collecting signatures, when a man approached as if he wanted to sign, then allegedly grabbed the petition papers and ran. She reported it to police. What matters here is not just the theft. It is what this kind of act says. When people stop trusting themselves to win through debate, some try to interfere with the process instead. That is when disagreement turns into contempt for democratic participation. THIS WAS AN ACT OF COWARDICE! If you oppose a petition, THEN OPENLY OPPOSE IT WITH YOUR WORDS. Make your case. Debate it. But do not interfere with other people’s lawful right to participate. THE ANSWER TO SPEECH YOU DISLIKE IS MORE SPEECH, NOT THEFT AND INTIMIDATION! Please share the video. But don't accuse random people online without evidence. We filed a legal complaint demanding Elections Alberta investigate Forever Canadian! Everyone can see the double standard: Elections Alberta only enforces the law against conservatives and people supporting independence. Law-breakers who oppose independence get a free pass. It’s bad enough that one rogue judge, appointed by Justin Trudeau, single-handedly stopped the referendum by inventing a new Indigenous right. But now, to only enforce the law against the independence side? I can’t think of a faster way to undermine the public trust in elections. Everyone’s talking about this double-standard. But no-one is doing anything about it! Until now. That's why today we're launching with a legal demand letter to ask Elections Alberta to formally investigate Forever Canadian. And we need your help to do it. Last week, Rebel News hired Chad Williamson, our most successful litigator, to go into battle one more time. Yesterday, he filed a formal complaint against Thomas Lukaszuk’s law-breaking campaign group, called Forever Canadian. You really have to see it. Because that’s what this is about: the “remain” side of the debate being able to cheat with impunity. A number of well-meaning Albertans have already written complaints to Elections Alberta. You don’t need a law degree to see the double standard. But Chad just raised the stakes:— a five-page demand letter, a ten-page formal legal complaint, and 226 pages of supporting evidence. And it’s running a serious, well-funded campaign — a bus tour, offices in Edmonton and Calgary, rallies, and lots of professional signs. Yet, according to its own public disclosure, it has raised exactly zero dollars. I’ve seen this myself. On July 18 in Lethbridge, our pro-Alberta group happened to be in the exact same park as Forever Canadian, doing the same things — signs, flags, collecting donations. Only one of us is reporting that activity the way the law requires. Guess which one. This is like a hockey game where the ref calls every hook and slash against one team and lets the other do whatever it wants. Nobody would call that fair. Why should a referendum on Alberta’s future face a lower standard? Chad’s letter also documents how Elections Alberta hounded Rebel News before. Years ago, they investigated me over my book, Stop Notley — arguing that a book critical of the then-premier, sold during an election period, counted as unregistered political advertising. We fought it, and we’ve paid penalties before over technicalities like this. So we’re not asking for a free pass now. We’re asking for one-tier justice — the same rules, applied the same way, to everyone. But our lawyer Chad doesn’t work for free, and 241 pages of legal work isn’t cheap. And it’s running a serious, well-funded campaign — a bus tour, offices in Edmonton and Calgary, rallies, and lots of professional signs. Yet, according to its own public disclosure, it has raised exactly zero dollars. I’ve seen this myself. On July 18 in Lethbridge, our pro-Alberta group happened to be in the exact same park as Forever Canadian, doing the same things — signs, flags, collecting donations. Only one of us is reporting that activity the way the law requires. Guess which one. This is like a hockey game where the ref calls every hook and slash against one team and lets the other do whatever it wants. Nobody would call that fair. Why should a referendum on Alberta’s future face a lower standard? Chad’s letter also documents how Elections Alberta hounded Rebel News before. I share some thoughts on canvassing for the Alberta independent petition. Harassing or intimidating canvassers, or people in line to sign the petition, is illegal and won't be tolerated. The overall citizens initiative signature collection process is managed by Elections Alberta. I believe they put in place adequate standards to ensure that the information collected is protected. But some people won't sign because they fear retribution from the government, their employer, their co-workers, and even their friends and family. If you want to sign the petition as discretely as possible, reach out to at And they'll arrange for someone to come see you privately.

Albertans are rallying behind a Progressive Conservative option - not because of nostalgia or branding, but because of the values it represents. Internal polling shows that if a PC Party were on the ballot, the UCP would fall to third place - right back to where it began as the Wildrose. And that explains the desperation. The UCP has sued us.
