I've had time to reflect on the signature validation announced on Friday, and I share some of my thoughts in this video. Elections Alberta’s signature validation for the Stay Free Alberta petition had a basic flaw. They treated every signature as independent and just randomly sampled 384 people. But signatures weren’t collected evenly. A small number of canvassers gathered the bulk of them (classic power-law pattern). If a few canvassers were sloppy or inconsistent, the problems would be clustered, not randomly scattered. Simple random sampling of individuals is weak at catching that. Industrial quality control (like the Alberta Boilers Safety Association inspecting pipeline welds) accounts for this. They sample by welder/crew and put more scrutiny on high-volume producers. Elections Alberta didn’t. The “verification” standard itself was also questionable. Requiring people to accurately remember when and if they signed months later is unreliable. Human memory isn’t that precise. So was the real goal rigorous quality control, or just hitting a statistical threshold that looks good on paper? Better methods exist. They just weren’t used.

Hey, guys! July 28th is when mayoral candidates can officially begin collecting petition signatures to get their names on the ballot. Please be careful about whose petition you sign. Make sure you are signing for a candidate whose name you truly want to see on the ballot. Don’t just sign every petition that is put in front of you. Signing petitions for multiple candidates can potentially lead to challenges involving your signature, so make sure you understand what you’re signing and choose wisely. Your signature matters. Why 1,000,000 signatures is important. This is alla dress rehearsal for the actual referendum. The sceptics are wrong. An independent Alberta is the only path forward.

BREAKING - Danielle Smith says that Elections Alberta has brought in “new and more stringent verification procedures”. In other words she is happy to accept the results of the Lukaszuk Petition - but will do everything she can to kill the real Alberta Independence Petition. That is the amount of respect she has for the hundreds of thousands of people in her UCP Base who signed the petition.

As I told Jesse Watters yesterday, I now have enough petition signatures to get me on the ballot in all 50 states. A million Americans (at a minimum) want to see my name next to Donald J. Trump’s and Kamala Harris’s this November, but yet again the DNC is trying to foil the will of the people. Both parties already conspired with CNN to block me from the first presidential debate – and clearly don’t want me on the ballot. The Antifa riots and the petition that Portland far-left activists started to demand that city council revoke the ICE facility permit are backfiring massively among the people they purport to help. Immigrants with family members who are detained are speaking out against the plan. These migrants say that if the local facility closes, illegal immigrants won't be able to complete their mandated check-ins, making it legally easier for ICE to deport more people. The closure would also hinder their ability to get legal counsel for those detained. The petition organizer responded that the critics are using identity politics to dismiss her petition solely because she is white. The critics say she won't be affected by the closure and her motives are merely to score a point against the Trump administration.

Alberta separatism poses a real threat to our nation. Danielle Smith is entirely responsible for allowing the separatist rhetoric to continue. It’s also a distraction from the real issues facing Alberta right now, like the health care crisis in our hospitals and emergency rooms. We’ve already seen in Quebec and the UK the immense economic damage separatism referenda leave in their wake. Don’t forget, this Premier and her UCP government changed the rules on citizen initiatives to allow this petition to move forward. They lowered the threshold for signatures, they took away powers from Elections Alberta and the Chief Electoral Officer and gave them to the Minister of Justice. They conveniently raised the application fee only after this separatist petition was approved by the Minister himself. This isn’t leadership for Alberta or for Canada. We can do better for all of us.
